Drinks and Lightning Talks at Byte

Let's get together for some beers and lightning talks on Wednesday August 7th. Web hoster Byte has kindly offered us their office space at De Ruyterkade to host this event.

In true APMG fashion, it will be a casual meetup to discuss Python related subjects with techies of all skill levels.

Additionally, there will be a few lightning talks touching different subjects:

  • What's new in Python 3?
  • Hexagonal Design
  • Graphite
  • Exception handling
  • Metaprogramming

To be fair, most of the Python NL meetups have been in Amsterdam, so there was no need for a separate group!

I sent you an email through the Meetup-system. In case this email didn't reach its destination: please help us improve our next meetup by answering some questions here: http://www.meetup.com/Amsterdam-Python-Meetup-Group/messages/boards/thread/37071982/. Thanks a lot!

    Yes, very nice.
However I do feel that the people who were having a big mouth(sorry for the danglish - can't find better words) last night should be presenting something themselves next time.

I think discussion is always good and encouraged, but talk proposals are definitely welcome though!

Was quite good, I'll put my slides online later today/this week.

Umm, Re Python 3.x: in Django 1.5, reading Quick Install Guide, I seem to get only limited support for Python 3 at this moment: "Being a Python Web framework, Django requires Python. It works with any Python version from 2.6.5 to 2.7. It also features experimental support for versions 3.2 and 3.3." (https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.5/intro/install/ )

I've been trying out Django 1.5.1 on Python 3.3 and haven't encountered any issues so far. I have to say that I haven't explored Django very well on Python 3.3, but so far stuff seems to work fine. Django depends on the six package which was mentioned yesterday. Cool stuff!

Very interesting talks; I already knew a bit about the Python 2 versus Python 3 syntax. Graphite was very interesting. Thanks Daniel !

As you can see, I have updated the announcement with 3 of the subjects we will touch during the Lightning Talks. I hope they convince you to come to this Meetup!

I was considering giving a brief talk about metaprogramming in Python but I'm not sure if I can keep it brief enough to fit it in a "lightning" talk.

Hi Daniël, sounds good! Let me know if I can add you to the list.

Erik, that would actually be a great idea :). So far, we have 4 Lightning Talks lined up. We'll inform you soon (today or tomorrow) on this page about the topics. So stay tuned!

Maybe I'll learn some Python to give a lightning talk: a beginner's view :-)

  • Daniël F.

So, has anyone proposed any lightning talks yet?

Depending on the weather, we'll either have pizza or BBQ. Please let me know by PM if you have any dietary constraints or preferences!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
