User Intelligence hosts Josh Clark ("Tapworthy") presentation on Dec 14

Hi UX Practitioner!

[UPDATE: We have a host (User Intelligence) and we are currently full, but there is a waiting list. And I share details about the presentations of Josh and UI.]

[Apologies for the radio silence regarding Amsterdam UX Cocktail Hours; I have been going through some changes in my private life and was, uhm, distracted.]

We have an opportunity for what should be a fun evening: Josh Clark, author of "Tapworthy - Designing Great iPhone Apps" (and more, see: http://globalmoxie.com/), will be in town for a couple of days next week, and he is up for giving a presentation about designing mobile apps on Wednesday, December 14, followed by a short Cocktail Hour. Josh is known for creating and delivering fun presentations, so he is a great fit with our informal and social events.

Josh's description of his talk "Teaching Touch" is:

Touch gestures are sweeping away buttons, menus and windows from mobile devices—and even from the next version of Windows. Find out why familiar desktop conventions are weak replacements for manipulating content directly, and learn to craft touchscreen interfaces that effortlessly teach users new gesture vocabularies. The challenge: gestures are invisible, without the visual cues offered by buttons and menus. As your touchscreen app sheds buttons, how do people figure out how to use the thing?

Learn to lead your audience by the hand (and fingers) with practical techniques that make invisible gestures obvious. Designer Josh Clark, author of "Tapworthy: Designing Great iPhone Apps," mines a variety of surprising sources for interface inspiration and design patterns. Along the way, discover the subtle power of animation, why you should be playing lots more video games, and why a toddler is your best beta tester.

The host of this event will be User Intelligence (http://www.userintelligence.com/). They will also share their work on a mobile app for Search and Rescue teams in a presentation called "GeoIQ Mobile App for First Responders".

It looks like we've found a host! I am waiting for confirmation (number of attendees they can manage, and title of brief presentation by them) but it looks very promising! :-)

So, next week Wednesday, when Josh Clark presents, we're going to have a full house! As many of you have noticed, there is a big waiting list, so if you said you were going to come but now realize you cannot, please change your RSVP status to free up a space for someone on the waiting list.
For those that will come: please be on time. This event is going to be short-but-sweet and we will start shortly after 6PM!
