We are a small group of bhakti yogis from the Ananda communities in Portland and the Laurelwood Valley who love sharing uplifting music and sacred chants. The style of chanting we offer is one which Paramhansa Yogananda brought to the west, sung in unison (vs. call-and-response), and consisting of prayers and affirmations put to simple, repetitive melodies -- providing a beautiful expression of the heart's natural yearning for the Divine. Our chants are mostly in English, but there are the occasional Sanskrit chants and even some sung in Italian -- very much a language of the heart! These are usually accompanied by harmonium and guitar.
This evening of devotional chanting and meditation (we usually reserve the last half hour or so for a period of meditation) is meant to help you open the heart and experience God's presence within your own Self. And no musical ability required! Please join us!
