Parkour is a non-competitive sport that involves moving quickly and efficiently through your environment using only your body and surroundings to propel yourself. It can include running, jumping, climbing, swinging, vaulting, spinning, and balancing. Parkour has roots in obstacle course military training inspired by the nimble, skillful, athletic bodies of indigenous African tribes whose only means of training were their lives in nature.
Below is a clip showing three of the French founders of Parkour: Raymond Belle, David Belle, and Sébastien Foucan.
Before you decide this isn't for you, take a look at what a beginner class looks like in our local Parkour gym:
On Tuesday evenings Revolution Parkour has a beginner's class. To secure a spot (classes max out at 25), registration is encouraged either on their website or by calling them at[masked], but not required. The drop-in cost is $15 and you'll need to sign a waiver. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to be there to sign for them. Please wear loose fitting or workout clothes.
You won't see them from Arctic Drive, but they are located in the second row of the Arctic business park behind ODOT and 503 Motoring.
We're a community exploring health from an evolutionary perspective. Hunter-gatherers, lean, fit and healthy, lived free of many of the chronic and degenerative diseases, physical ailments, dental decay and mental disorders modern, civilized humans experience. Anthropological findings provide insights in to the lifestyle of our ancestors that we can incorporate in to our contemporary culture such as: nutrient dense, local and organic foods, traditional meal preparation, intermittent fasting, optimal sleep, sun exposure, slow, strengthening and sprinting movements, play, social connections, baby wearing, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, natural cleaning and personal care products, time in nature and going barefoot.
Whether you call your nourishing lifestyle and real food approach Paleo, Primal, Weston A. Price, ketogenic, or a customized version of your own, this is a place to connect with like-minded people and find support on your wellness journey. Anyone new to these concepts or just curious what ancestral health is about is welcome!
