What kinds of things are you interested in making or hacking?

Circuit boards, home automation type stuff - I have a design in mind, and all the parts to allow me to lock/unlock the door to my house using HID/RFID cards. I haven't settled on how they will connect back to the network, I will probably use Zigbee in a mesh configuration.

Do you have any work experience or hobbies that led to your interest in making or hacking?

Lots of hobbies, I love to fix everything. From the $2 battery powered milk frother of my wife's, to an LCD with a non-functional backlight which was caused by one pad on a SMD resistor not getting solder on it when it was masked. A quick touch of the iron and the backlight fired right up!

I'm a software architect/engineer by trade. Mostly in the .NET space, but also with the .NET Microframework and the Arduino platform. I also dabble with electronics, have an o-scope on my desk, and a 18"x12"x3" CNC in my shop :-)
