As many of us know, breast feeding can be such a positive and beautiful bonding experience, but it can also bring physical pain, exhuastion, and feelings of self doubt. I would like to see this group become a place for women in all stages of breast feeding from pregnant mothers to those whose children are no longer breast feeding to come together and share experiences. When I had my biggest struggles with BFing, I had no other mothers to turn to but the medical experts I was seeing. They are all mothers too, but in that setting I found myself feeling judged and wrong because I was failing to make my child healthy and meet the standards set forth in books. I recently got a phone call from a new client of my midwife who was going through the same thing. I realized that peer support, in addition to medical guidance, can be the most helpful thing. Knowing that someone else has been through it and come out of it is so meaningful. Our group has many great stories of BF trails, struggles, and successes that I have heard firsthand from mothers I've talked to on hikes and playdates. This will be a way for us to sit down and share.
Bring questions, advice, stories, books etc to this meeting and be ready to listen, offer support, and enjoy the company of like-minded mothers.
I'll prepare snacks and tea, and will likely have my little nursling for these meetings. Other babies/toddlers/children are welcome and we have toys for most ages.
