Alaskans celebrate the longest day of the year in Town Square and surrounding streets with tons of events packed into one sweet celebration. Live musical performances keep downtown hopping until the sun goes down, a tall order on a day with 22 hours of functional daylight. We'll haveskateboarders, chainsaw artists, Art Fair, Jazz Fest, and a Block Party with live music and performance stages, Taste of Anchorage Food Court and an Alaskan Kids Zone featuring activities such as a kayak pool, bubble machine, giant sandbox, petting zoo, Steven's Puppets, arts and crafts and much more. The Hero Games are a friendly competition from noon to 3 p.m. between law enforcement, each military branch and the fire department. Enjoy the heart-pumping adrenaline with entertaining and challenging games such as the obstacle course, a "rescue the cat" climb, litter carry, the bucket brigade and tricycle races. The Rage City Roller Girls, the local roller derby team, have their Solstice Showdown bout at 4 p.m. in Town Square. + More
