Run 4-5 Miles Around the Alaska Botanical Garden

Let's meetup and run from around the Botanical Garden/School parking lot, down to Campbell Airstrip, and back again.

I'll run at a fairly easy pace and make sure that no one gets left in the dust. If anyone wants to go faster, that is cool too!

I have planned a slightly less than 4 mile route, but am prone to wrong turns, so it may end up going a little longer! Tentative Route:

I will join you guys another time. I will have to buy more shoes to join muddy events like this one. Do they have waterproof running shoes? What do you run in?

Most people run in standard road or trail running shoes. I prefer to have something with gortex, which keeps my feet dry until the water goes in over the ankles. I think gortex helps with snowy/cold conditions too.

Hey Mike M, do you think the trails will be in decent shape with all this rain?

Hi Karen. We will most certainly run into significant mud and standing water on the Campbell Creek portion. The section along the Garden perimeter fence will have less mud, but will be grassy and wet in areas.

Haven't been here before, where do we park and meet? Is it obvious? I'll look for a group of happy runners :)

We will be meeting in the large parking lot between the Botanical Garden and Benny Benson school. Parking is free and the lot will be mostly empty at this time of day, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding us.

I so wish I could run with all of you this evening! I started a run here in Rochester, NY and had my first run tonight which ended up being a solo one. Hope you all have a great run!

No excuse for me to pass up this one. The 1-mile mark must be the Lowenfels Trail. On the return, instead of running up Campbell Airstrip, we could go around the northeast side of the Garden to complete the perimeter tour.

    • Zach

Good idea, I wasn't quite positive if it connected around that northeast side or not.

I agree! What app or program or whatever do you use zach?

That is a screenshot of a Runkeeper route. It is pretty handy for tracking miles and things like that in general, but you can build a route like this and then display it on a map on your phone while actually running so if you're like me and tend to make wrong turns, at least you will know where you are supposed to be!
