Bonny Sosa Tuesday Night Races!

It's just about fall which means the Muni's Tuesday Night Race series is back!!

For those unfamiliar, read about this series of 9 runs here:
http://www.muni.org/departments/parks/pages/tuesdaynightraces.aspx

Run locations around Anchorage vary from week to week and there are various levels. Lots of competitive runners, but also tons of "normal" folks. Definitely a great part of Anchorage fall culture that every runner should experience!

The first of the nine races is this Tuesday at Kincaid. I'm already registered for the entire bunch ($35 for the season, or $5 per race IF you pre-register, or $10/race on-site registration) and can be the "point person" if we want to powwow before each race and/or run more after and/or grab post-race food together. Otherwise, this is more of an informational post to keep everyone in the loop on a great local running event! I will go ahead and post a Meetup for each race individually.

The basics:
Races are Tuesday nights, Sept 10 to Nov 5.
Check-in on race day is 5:30-6:10pm -- important to be there on time.
Races at 6:30pm sharp!

Hope to see some of you there!

Haha! I just watched this episode of Portlandia last night post-Taproot! (Fortunately, none of us seemed to get the shaft with any tapas remnants. Although I did get a horrible headache from that heavy metal "band"...)

It's generally a bit chaotic at check-in. My schedule is going to make getting there in time a tight squeeze so someone else will need to orchestrate a meeting location if that's necessary (personally, I don't see much point). Cell service is virtually non-existent at the chalet, so anything relating to pre- and post-race convening should be coordinated beforehand.

Okay, gang. Do we need to have a formal meetup spot or is everyone good to go? Is there interest in post-race food?

That works, Eryn. I'll try to get there a bit early and just hang out at the top of the ramp that goes down to the stadium, right next to the chalet.

How do 1,500 people manage to park at Kincaid? I guess I'll find out tonight :)

I signed up and am debating between "farm" and "lightning". Anyone have a description of what they're like and how fast/difficult the lightning is?

    September 9, 2013

    • Zach

There is a pretty good spread as far as how fast people are that do both Farm and Lightning. All the crazy fast highschoolers and college athletes are in Lightning, but I just make sure that they start ahead of me...

The main differences are that the lightning trail usually peels off of the main farm trail for an extra 2 or 3 k distance on a little less traveled trails.

      They're both fun :)

I just signed up for the season pass and after paying i realized i didn't specify "farm" and it was only 32.50. did i do something wrong?

    September 9, 2013

    • Jenni D

no you can pick whichever league you want to do that day.

      2 · September 9, 2013

    • Meredyth

You did nothing wrong - my mistake! The season is $30 plus a pesky service charge, bringing the total to around $32.50.

Thanks for posting this, I always forget when they start up! "Post-race food" sounds like fun!
