Girdwood weekend!

  • January 31, 2014 · 7:00 PM

Let's all rent a cabin and ski/snowboard/run/party together! i am completely flexible on the weekend, I just picked a random weekend that would give us enough time to get some commitments. i don't want to get a cabin until i know how many people can commit. we will divide up the cost per person per night.

the owner emailed me (she is so nice!) and said that someone left a book behind. "solar revolution". who's is that? she will mail it to you.

Awesome weekend everybody! Did anybody pick up a gray sweater with some keys in it? :-) please call Brian at 9073604671. Thanks much. Let's do it again!

I really expected a bit more responsibility from you trail runners. However, I will (and did) capitalize on the irresponsibility that led to an abandoned bottle of Jameson in the freezer and a ridiculous number of tomatoes.

      2 · February 3, 2014

    • Eryn R

uh oh, the jameson was jussi's and he's been looking for it! i'm not going to get it from you, but you should prepare for a fight from him! ;) i also took the beautiful flowers that were left behind. my house is at least 40% more beautiful and fragrant with them.

      1 · February 3, 2014

  • Eryn R

Jussi and I will be there around 6-7. i'm bringing tequila, margarita mix, chips, salsa, guac, limes, hummus (for after we eat all of mike's homemade), oranges and juicer, champagne, one bottle of wine, and anything else that i need to get rid of at home. i am also bringing every instrument of outdoor gear i have, so i am open to all sorts of activities. pretty sure jussi and i will be on the mountain on sunday since it is 2 for 1.

    1 · January 31, 2014

    • Sarah S.

Similar ETA and outdoor list for me. ;) Sunday lift skiing sounds like a great deal, plus it will be gorgeous.

directions from the email from the owner: Directions from Anchorage. Take the highway south to Girdwood. Turn left on Alyeska Hwy.at the Tesoro Gas Station. Drive up a few miles. Pass Hightower Road, over a bridge, and your next right is Timberline. Your address is 923 Timberline Drive.
You will see a wood sign at the base of the driveway. That is your driveway.
You can drive right up the driveway to unload.
The first door at the top of the stairs will be unlocked and there will be a note for you on it.
We live right next door (one up on the same side of the road). If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to stop over or give a call.

Thanks and we will see you on Friday the 31st.

Yep, I have a friend coming too. I'm bringing my air mattresses but just remembered I somehow lost the pump (not sure how this is possible). Hopefully you have one, Eryn, if we end up needing any spare beds! I'm similarly bringing a bunch of random foodstuffs from my house. Sun is out, conditions are okay-ish, GET EXCITED PEOPLE!

      January 31, 2014

    • Sarah S.

I'm SO EXCITED. I will settle for okay-ish in exchange for a hot tub.

In response to the dis on beer margaritas, all I can say is that you're missing out but luckily not for long. I may have missed this, but are we doing pizza on Friday and tacos on Saturday or vice versa?

    January 30, 2014

    • Mike M

Pizza Friday is ok but I won't arrive until 7ish so it could be kinda late when it's ready.

      January 30, 2014

    • Meredyth

And I'm probably not going to make it much before 7...and have been charged with the taco toppings. Looks like it's a taco/pizza toss up!

Hi All. I am leaving midtown at 2ish tomorrow. Have room for two people.

    January 30, 2014

  • Meredyth

I've added both breakfast and brownie sundae + beer float tabs to the lovely excel document. The latter tab I've got covered. Not sure what the scoop is for breakfast, but I put a few ideas down. However, to perhaps make things easiest in terms of coordination and personal food preferences/silly diets, we could all just be individually responsible for all meals not associated with our taco and pizza parties? (Sarah - What's the scoop with this birthday cake we've been promised?! And Eryn - How much space is left in the cabin and what's the fee structure? A friend is potentially interested in joining.)

    January 27, 2014

    • Eryn R

We'll just divide the total by the amount of people that end up staying so if more people stay, the rest of us will all get some money back:)

      January 27, 2014

    • Sarah S.

      Def. a bday cake coming!

      January 29, 2014

  • Heather

I'll bring the taco fillings? Meat(s) and cheeses? What do you ppl like? Beef, chicken, do we need a vegetarian option? Also I'll bring some beer margaritas- they make any meal a celebration!

    January 26, 2014

    • Heather

That sounds great. I'll get beef, chicken, and cheese if you'll take care of the rest.

      1 · January 27, 2014

    • Sarah S.

I have some beans/beef that I'll bring too, about 4 servings, but we can't have too much food. ;)

hey all! 10 people have officially paid! so beyond these 10 people, we should limit guests. i think a few extra each night shouldn't be a big deal though. and how should we go about organizing the food/drinks? i love the idea of pizza/beer floats on friday and tacos/margaritas on saturday!

I just found out that Sunday the 2nd is 2 for 1 lift tickets at the mountain! let's hope they have any snow at all. but thought that that was pretty sweet!
and sarah, that spreadsheet doesn't show my info anymore... it did before when i checked it. i am going to make homemade salsa and guac and bring chips and beer and wine.

    January 24, 2014

    • Sarah S.

There are two tabs on the spreadsheet, one for pizza, one for tacos, they might have been switched?

      January 24, 2014

    • Eryn R

I did not notice the separate tabs:)

      January 24, 2014

  • Meredyth

My contribution to the culinary discussion is hot fudge brownie sundaes (on a different night than Sarah's cake.) And the best part?! Using the leftover ice cream in beer floats. I assure you they are actually greater than the sum of their individual parts, if you can wrap your heads around that!

The owner of the cabin just gave me the total including taxes and cleaning fee:[masked]; this is for 10 people. So i propose that the first 8 people to send me[masked] via square cash or give me cash in person or drop it by my office (alcan dental on corner of dawson and benson) are reserved a bed for sleeping. I think we could fit a few extras (just a few!) on the sly, but we have to be careful not to get too rowdy as the owner lives next door (i did not know that at the time of booking!) whatever number we end up with i will adjust to the total and may end up refunding some $$ or it could be put towards communal food and beverages. My email address for square cash is [masked]

    So excited!!! Ginger birthday weekend!!!!

Ok i am going to get us a cabin for the posted weekend this week. If you haven't used square cash, i suggest you look it up. SUPER easy way to pay people. Ill just divide it by how many the place sleeps per night for an estimate of price and if more or less show up i can edit from there. The first people to pay me will be the ones invited to stay:) Unless anyone has a better idea to make sure none of us get burned? (i.e. I end up paying 1500$ for the place alone) PS: this is going to be my birthday weekend so prepare to rock it so hard:)

I'm a ski enthusiast - would love to attend! I'm all for placing a deposit to weed out the non-committal. Schlepping and trekking is fine with me - the more exercise, the better!

    January 3, 2014

  • Meredyth

Eryn, I think you have a critical mass. Do you want to put a RSVP deadline and/or cap RSVPs at 12-15? From what I can tell, most places in Girdwood do not sleep more than that. I just spent a few minutes poking around online and think many of the homes/cabins within walking distance to Aly in particular are booking/booked up. How important is proximity to the lifts to everyone? (I don't downhill so it doesn't matter to me, however, schlepping gear to the mountain and trekking back at night from the Sitz isn't super fun.)

To give people an idea, cabins run $500ish/night, so I think we're looking at $100/person max.

I like the idea of a security deposit. I think we are all pretty responsible and understand that if we say yes and then change our minds that would make it more expensive for the rest. So if we have some kind of security deposit we minimize the risk.

      1 · January 3, 2014

    • Meredyth

I'm definitely a proponent of a security deposit. Besides, Anchorage isn't that big - we will find the scofflaws! PS for Eryn: I edited the event to revert to a waitlist when we hit 15 RSVPs.
