The return of Turnagain arm running

Just an out an back this time- another time we will stage cars to do the entire trail. Meet at starbucks at 12:15 to carpool, otherwise meet us at potter trailhead at 12:30 pm so we can start right away and be finished around 1:30. Now that the south-facing trail has been hit by the 40+ degree weather of the past couple weeks, the trail should be a good ways toward being melted (and most likely muddy, with possible icy patches). I haven't checked it out in a few weeks, so not sure of the conditions. Come prepared with ice studs if needed (I'm going to take along 2 pairs of shoes and decide at the trailhead, unless I hear the trail is basically free of ice). Put down this time, that way we can sleep in/go to church. Let me know if you have time preferences.

Four stars since the gang left me at Potter! (For future reference when Potter is full, there is a gigantic extension parking lot about a block north on the opposite side of the highway as the actual Potter trailhead...no need to drive all the way to McHugh!)

I'm not a stranger to running, but I do 2-3.5 miles on a routine day--I'm sure I could do more, and I.want to and am willing to push myself. I'd really like to become an avid runner and even train to do a half, but I'm not there yet. The 8-9 mile runs you guys do are intimidating. I'd love to give it a try, but I don't want to hold you guys back anymore than I want to get left in the dust or potentially stranded on a trail I don't know. What do y'all think? Should I sign up for one of your runs, or come back when I'm sure I could keep up? Thanks... :-)

We have runners of all sorts. All are welcome! But, many of us are training for stuff so tend to be vigilant about keeping a certain pace and building up mileage :) Your best bet is to come to a trail run that has more than just a few people; odds are at least one other person in the group will know the trail and run your same speed. Sometimes we even break runs into "fast" and "less fast" waves so be on the lookout for those. FYI - This particular run will be no more than 6ish miles and the trail is virtually impossible to get lost on. There is another meetup next week specifically targeting folks running lower mileage. Hope that helps! Feel free to ask more questions!

I plan to start getting back, too, and am 100% ok slowing down to my own pace. So, don't worry - I'm sure you'll have "bear" company :-) I just did 7 tonight but ohsoslowly, lol.

Just FYI: on Friday the trail was muddy with some unmelted snow patches. Basically, imagine what trails usually look like in April and prepare for that. You will get muddy and conditions aren't conducive to setting any PRs!

Ok, so how about we meet at 12:15 pm at Carrs Huffman so we can be at Potter by 12:30? We can run an out and back until 1:30. Sound ok?

I'm supposed to do 90 minutes today, so unless someone wants to pool with me and also do 90 I'll meet you all at the Potter parking lot @ 12:30 :)

Nicole - should I meet you at the Carr's at 12:15 or Potter at 12:30?

Thanks, Meredyth. I've done 10k's, so I'm sure I could do 6 miles, albeit not without walking a little. Besides, the only way to run more is to, well, run more. I'm pretty fit and active, and I feel I'd improve quickly. I want to start training, too, so I suppose I just need to get out there and do it! Don't know if I'll make it this weekend, as I have lots of birthday festivities planned, but I intend to make it out to something soon. Thanks for the info.

Well maybe since it's just meredyth, Chelsea and me so far I will change the time to earlier and to an out and back, since the group is small. That way we can so an hour run and save the whole trail for another day when the ice is melted more and when there's more rsvp'd. Sound good?

I'm up for starting as early as 11am. Sunday is my only sleep-in day...

      So how was it meredyth?

      Haven't gone yet. Going tonight.

Also, I'm doing an out and back from potter so will meet everyone there. I'm starting as close to 12:45 as possible. (Sorry to sound bossy, I just have a strict training regime to follow, like many others!) Ran the trail last Sunday; the earlier you go the more the mud is frozen. By this time of day expect mud and some ice/snow patches. I've been running in my stuffed trail shoes - works great!

Oh this is soooo my favorite trail run, however I be in Girdwood skiing for the day. If there are any changes to our schedule, I'll be there:)

I have an hour run to do so will be out for exactly this long! Thanks for organizing, Nicole!
