Slush Cup/Run 6-8 miles Upper Winner Creek

(Slush Cup activities are going on all weekend, but the actual downhill portion starts at 4pm on Saturday. If you want to meet up with us later: keep in touch...don't RSVP though; that'll just confuse us with the running portion)

This event is for an approximately 6 mile (round trip) run starting at 1pm at the Girdwood-side Winner Creek Trailhead by Alyeska Hotel, 2 miles to the Winner Creek Trail sign, and going up the Winner Creek Trail a mile or so to where it breaks out of the trees and into the avalanche death zone. We can turn around here, though if conditions are OK I would love to run another mile up the valley.

Feel free to bring other clothes to change into/throw on top. Carpooling for anyone willing to leave around 12:15pm Carrs Huffman? Don't forget warm clothes for standing around outside! http://www.alyeskaresort.com/info/calendarevents/calendarevents.winter-09-event11.empty.aspx

Kenton - hope you get better soon so you can run! Just for clarity - since I am easily confused - we are starting at the Winners Creek Trail Head right near the Alyeska Hotel and NOT the trail head of the Winners Creek Trail Extension which is close to Girdwood town proper?

Town proper? I woild guess alyeska hotel would be town proper...no other trailhead except the crow pass side that has the hand tram (which would take a while to get people across). So yes...parking lot next to bus stop around the corner from alyeska hotel...meet there...run to trailhead quarter mile away, behind alyeska hotel

I really can't imagine I'm going to feel much better in 36 hours! I'm going to take my name off the list just in case. Follow Winner Creek Trailhead behind Alyeska Hotel 2 miles to the Upper Winner Creek sign and follow that as far as you can! I will try to make it if I don't feel awful, but I do plan on making it to the slush cup either way.

I would also like to get in a few extra miles! So Kenton unless it's a ice luge I'll definently be down for going up the valley. Fizzes after words perhaps ;)?

I'm sure it'll be fine, but we'll be running over old avalanche debris I'm sure, and probably no one has gone out there, so the snow may be a few inches deep. Then again, I am regularly surprised with how well traveled some trails have been this winter! Either way, it definitely won't be an ice luge.
