Turnagain Arm Trail Part II

http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/maps/turnagainarmguide.pdf shows distances and trail head locations.  If there's sufficient interest in one way hiking, we can shuttle back and forth between McCugh and Rainbow trail heads before and after our walk.  Accommodating members interested in shorter or longer outing(s) will be a function of the make-up of the crew.  Note other options shown on the map at the link above.

If you don't go, you won't be there.

Lol.. It worked out better to cross paths on this one, I prefer not having to transport pup in other cars. Which worked I fine, I wanted Roscoe to run out all his energy, he was one pooped puppy by the end of the hike. So no worries your instructions were just fine.. I'm glad we didn't have any falling trees while we were on the path. That wind was something else..

Light snow predicted for tomorrow. Let's hope it's sunny again instead.

Did a trail recon today completing the first 1.5 miles north of the Rainbow Trail Head in about an hour. Gained elevation for the duration, but found grade to be mild to moderate and steady. Found some snowy patches but no ice. Much of the trail was dirt and duff and good footing. Estimate it'll take 2 to 2 1/2 hours to cover the Rainbow to McHugh segment if conditions Monday are as they were today. Based upon affirmative respondents presently (7), we'll need two standard sedans (4 seaters), or larger vehicles, parked at each trail head. Anyone wanting to turn back without covering the full 4.2 miles, should plan accordingly. We'll sort details at McHugh Trail Head at 10 am AKST. Let's hope for sun on Monday!

"McHugh" is correct spelling rather than "McCugh".
