Homer’s 2013 Kachemak Bay Nordic Ski Marathon on March 9

  • March 8, 2013 · 12:00 PM

Event Host: Richard Speakman, cell:[masked]

Race Distance: 25k race, 42k race, or a 25k tour (not a race but you get to do the trail)

How to get to there: Driving to Homer on Friday, March 8th as soon as my boss lets me go.  I am hoping for 12 pm, but its up to my boss and his mood that day.  I work at Ingra and 15th, but we can car pool at Carrs off of Huffman.  I plan to return on Sunday.  If it is just myself going, I plan to sleep in my van.  If other people want to come, we can find some lodging.

About the event: This is a race/tour of Nordic ski trails in Homer.  I have signed up for the 25k tour, which starts at 9:30am. The course, which begins at the Lookout Mountain Nordic ski trails and ends at the Baycrest Nordic ski trails, is challenging, varied, and truly “cross-country”.  The race costs $45 for non-members, which I assume most of us are not members. Click here to register and find out even more information about the event.

The awards party will be at Alice’s Champagne Palace at 5pm. Soup, salad, bread, cash bar, door prizes. Adults/young adults (high school and up) - $10; big kids (6-12) $5; little kids free.

25k is basically 16 miles, so I am looking for anyone confident in their skiing abilities.  I have never skied in Homer, but I have done these types of tours/races in Talkeetna.

I am a confident skier but by no means someone who races.  I am not fast.  I enjoy taking my time, taking pictures, and enjoying the event.  The 25k race starts at 10:30am, just one hour after the tour.  I am pretty confident the races will catch up to me.

I am bringing my dog to Homer, but not to the race.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
