Snowshoe Hemlock Knob

Wednesday is forecast to be sunny, so I want to enjoy this new snow. I'll be heading up on Silver Fern and Hemlock Knob Trails, and then exploring the various unmarked trails southeast of Hemlock Knob.

These are gentle slopes in non-avalanche terrain. Be prepared to break trail and do some meandering. Plan to be out about 3 hours, and go 4-5 miles with elevation gain less than 1,000 feet.

WHERE: Upper Huffman Trailhead. From Hillside Drive, turn east on Upper Huffman Road, then go left on Sultana Drive (where you would normally turn right on Toilsome Hill Dr if you were going to Glen Alps). State Parks sticker or $5.00 parking fee required.

Gear: Backpack with clothing layers, fluids, snowshoes, gaiters, poles, sunglasses, etc.

DOGS: OK. Be prepared to clean up.

Location Map: Click on the trailhead link above for a Google map of this location. Parking lot is marked by a green arrow.

Hours of backcountry paradise puncuated by moments of sheer terror when the Ents attacked us in Hemwood Forest. Shane, thanks for leading the breakout! :o)
