Heart 'n Lunger Hike-Rendezvous Peak and Mt. Gordon Lyon

  • June 25, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Arctic Valley - Alpenglow

The Heart 'n Lunger hikes will be every Tuesday evening May - September. We have done them every year since 2007. H 'n L hikes, by our definition, gain at least 1500' of elevation. Many of them will offer 2x that elevation gain for the uber-fit among us. At the other end of the fitness spectrum, the less fit in the group have good naturedly dubbed their sub-group the 'Gaspers 'n Wheezers'. Everyone is welcome these hikes are mix with 'out and back' and " Loop"

WHEN/WHERE: Rendezvous Peak and Mt. Gordon Lyon at Arctic valley

We will take a steep trail behind the ski club house and  hike the ridge to the Rendezvous Peak and than  head up to Mt. Gordon-Lyon, which is the peak at the end of the 'Nike Missile Site' ridge in Arctic Valley.

Meet at the parking lot at 6pm, we'll start hiking by 6:15. This is NOT a State Park, it costs $5 to park here.

Directions:

To get to the trailhead, go north on the Glenn Hwy out of Anchorage and take the Arctic Valley Road exit just past Ship Creek. Follow this road past the golf course and keep on driving up the dirt road to Arctic Valley. We'll meet at the parking lot on the top left side at the end of the road

BRING:
-- trekking poles (optional but very helpful on the steeps and on rocky, muddy, and slippery areas)
-- Wind shell and wind pants
-- Dress in non-cotton layers so you can shed or add clothes as temps change
-- Water & trail snacks

DOGS:
Yes but they need to be sure footed and not hesitant about varied and changing terrain.

COST:
$5 parking fee

We must have hiked fast because I don't have a myriad of mosquito bites. Awesome group, nice weather!

Hi! This is Sara, in town from California for the summer and usually ride with Kristin to these hikes, but she's booked tonight. I don't have a car. If anyone can take 2 people in their car, myself and my partner Martin, that'd be amazing. Pls text[masked] if possible. If not, see you at the next one. Thx!!

New in town and getting back in hiking shape. Flat top was not a problem so lets see if I can do this one without keeling over..

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
