Chugach Peak Baggers Special #1

This will be a 4 day peak bagging trip from a base camp at Long Lake. Hopefully we can knock out: Tikishla, East/West Tanaina, Koktoya, Williwaw, Elliot, and maybe others. The plan is to get up as many of these as possible in the time and weather provided.

This is not going to be a trip for the casual or beginner hiker. It will involve lots of hiking, scrambling, ridge walking, climb/descent, route-finding, etc. You should be comfortable with off-trail hiking, up and down loose scree/talus slopes, and 'scrambling' with some light exposure. We'll need to keep a strong and steady pace all day long, every day.

We'll want to carpool to the trail head as much as possible and can work those details out as the trip gets closer.

"The Plan"

Thursday: Hike the 8'ish miles in, set up camp, bag Elliot

Friday: Tikishla, Tanaina's, Koktoya

Saturday: Williwaw

Sunday: Leftovers and hike out

Bring: Stuff. If you have to ask "What stuff?", then this trip may not be for you...

What a great weekend. We bagged Koktoya, East & West Tanaina, Elliot, and Williwaw (plus Near Point twice, going in and out). Long Lake must be one of the most consistently windy places in the Chugach. A constant 15-25 with gusts over 30. The rain was nice enough to wait for us to get to camp before it started but continued all night. Days were dry but overcast and Williwaw was summited in the clouds. Thanks everyone for a great trip, I'm looking forward to the next one I can squeeze in!

Prospect Heights Trailhead; assuming you haven't coordinated a carpool from elsewhere.

Sent an email out so we can coordinate carpools to reduce the number of parking spaces we take up at this busy trail head.
