We will hike up Summit Creek trail from the Seward Hwy to the junction with the Resurrection Trail (approx 9 mi. & 2100 ft elevation gain). From there, south on the Res. trail to the junction of the Devils Pass Trail (approx 2 mi.). Down Devils Pass Trail back to the Seward Hwy (approx 10 mi.) at Mi. 39.5. We will have a vehicle staged there to return the 4 miles back to Summit Crk Trailhead.
Total length of hike is approx 20 miles. Good trail (some muddy areas during rains, some vegetation, in Aug), moderate elevation gains.
Should take about 10 hours, hiking time (depending on the makeup of the group). We will be traveling at a moderate pace (while still enjoying the scenery and photo ops) with minimal breaks.
Only RSVP for this trip if you are fully comfortable with hiking 20 miles in a single stretch.
If anyone would like to like to do a shorter (out and back) trip on the lower portion of the Summit Crk Trail, you're welcome to join us. I would recommend having at least 2 people in the group, so that you don't have to hike back down alone.
Rain will cancel the hike, or at least shorten the trek to lower elevations.
