Heart 'n Lunger Hike
The Heart 'n Lunger hikes will be every Tuesday evening May - September. We have done them every year since 2007. H 'n L hikes, by our definition, gain at least 1500' of elevation. Many of them will offer 2x that elevation gain for the uber-fit among us. Distance and time: 3-4 miles in 3-3.5 hours. At the other end of the fitness spectrum, the less fit in the group have good naturedly dubbed their sub-group the 'Gaspers 'n Wheezers'. Little O'Malley (3278 ft) and False O'Malley (4250 ft)
Meet at 6:00 PM at the Glen Alps (Flat Top) Trail Head in front of the Park Ranger station. I will start hike at 6:15, whoever comes after that please follow the trail to up.
We will start at Glen Alps, next to the ranger station. The first mile is down through Powerline Pass/Campbell Creek, then very steeply up to a saddle (with a snow pack at top) at which we will go left to Little O'Malley first and then walk back to saddle and continue up to False O'Malley. About 5 miles round and 2000 ft total elevation gain.
Here are the directions for getting there: take the Seward Highway to the O'Malley exit and head east. After a few miles, follow the signs to Glen Alps. Make a right on Hillside Drive then a left on Upper Huffman. Turn right on Toilsome Hill. this road will twist and wind up the hills for about two miles.
