Ship Pass overlook

This will be a moderate hike with gradual elevation gain. Plan is to head out to Ship Pass overlook and back, will take about 5-6 hours since snow in the valley will probably be deep. Snowshoes will be needed.

My pace will be pretty slow but usually we get some fast hikers that know the trails and forge ahead.

Dogs welcome if they can handle deep snow. Bring the 10 essentials plus good windlayer, lunch, headlamp just in case. Snowshoes can be rented from REI and AMH if you need. Poles and waterproof pants recommended. Parking at Glen Alps is $5 or have pass. Best to have snow tires and AWD to get up/down road.

If forecast is very windy I will change the venue so check this posting day of hike.

I Waddled out to just past where the Rocky Lake and Hidden Lake creeks join and turned around with the crowd there. Nice to catch up with folks over the holidays.

    Thanks Maureen !

Stephanie, Norman, Ann and I hiked to Ship Pass and spent time there until the wind encouraged us to descent. We never saw anyone else from the halfway point on. We ate our lunch in the lee of a hemlock tree and had a nice hike back together. We enjoyed your company, Norman and Stephanie!

Sorry for late but had a chance to meet and chat with friends for a minutes and it was nice. There wasn't much snow on the hill side Zach and I stayed on the power line.

Thanks for getting me out there. Good to see you people, however briefly. I felt like a toddler doing parallel play since my timing was off of everyone else's.

It was 8F at Glen Alps when my group headed out on the trail, and 28F when we returned! Most of us turned around early, but one group was still heading for the overlook. It was nice to see some folks I hadn't seen in months!

"some folks" were nice to see, the others not so? Just kidding you! Had to play with the words. Yes I agree. It was nice to see you all again, and boy did I need the hike after so much eating during holidays.

I'm sure you and Kyong will catch me. I'm superstitious and remember the last time you guys caught me on the trail so I won't wear my bad luck neon green jacket :)

Depending on the ice/snow that day, might need a ride up the road. My car has been pretty good so far but it's just front-wheel drive so I know it's got its limits. If anybody would be up for giving me a ride up the hill, please shout. Thanks.

Sure, if you need ride just text me.

I live on the corner of O'Malley and Crooked Tree, so I'd be happy to take you from there up to Glen Alps, if you don't get a ride with Maureen. :-)
