  • Ruth Arcand Park Shelter

3700 Abbott Road, Anchorag, AK 99507, Anchorage, AK (map)

  • We will be wearing warm winter clothing.

  • Meg has discovered a nice walking loop on the horse trails at Ruth Arcand Park. She says it is wide, fairly flat, unlit and great for dogs too. It is not too long - will maybe take an hour. But, with the cold temps of late we may walk very briskly and finish in less than an hour.

Meet in the parking lot off of Abbott Road; there is a sign there - just drive in from the road. You cannot see the parking lot from the street.

Bring a headlamp and lots of layers. If we have clear skies we'll have a big, beautiful moon and won't need our headlamps.

If you bring a pooch, don't forget poop bags and leashes, in case we encounter horse or moose. You must leash your dog if we encounter any horesback riders.

BTW, here's NOAA's website, if you want to bookmark their URL. I've found it to consistently have the most detailed and accurate forecasts. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=AKZ101

Thanks, Barbara. We have a link to noaa in our 'about us' section, which is linked on the left side of the home page. It includes lots of useful information, such as current weather, forecast, tides, webcams, etc.

Oh, duh. I always access this via mobile, so I don't see any of those cool things. I'm really adamant about checking forecasts, as I've had over a dozen friends and acquaintances perish in weather-related accidents here over the last 40 years. I never take it lightly.

Glad I checked! I've been running around like mad trying to get my errands done. Just unloaded the Christmas tree. Guess I'll just feed the pups and wait for the wind to blow. :-)

Sounds lovely! I'm hoping the the forecast on NOAA's website is wrong, though it rarely is. Blowing snow and winds to 45 mph could mean a night of shovelling snowdrifts here on the hillside, but we'll hope for the best! From NOAA: Tonight: Snow. Areas of blowing snow along turnagain arm and higher elevations with visibilities below one mile at times. Snow accumulation 2 to 4 inches. Lows 5 to 15 above. North winds 5 to 15 mph. Along turnagain arm and higher elevations...southeast winds 30 to 45 mph diminishing to 20 mph after midnight.
