Sunday AM Cardio: Hike Peak 2 from Rabbit Creek

Sunday AM Cardio:  a series of high intensity, short hikes.  2-3 miles round trip, 1500-2500 ft in elevation gain with the intent to only be out for 2 hours or less.  The trails selected will be high use trails so that snowshoes should not be needed.

The hike to the top of Peak 2 is steep climb with around 2000 ft of elevation gain over 1.25 miles one way.  This is a great training peak that will test your cardio in under 2 hours.  The trail begins off of Rabbit Creek Trail, taking a left turn up the gulley between Flattop and Peak 2.

When/Where: Please meet at the gate on Canyon Road.  There is a parking area just before this gate, where I recommend everybody park.  Do not park at the "No Parking" signs or risk a $300 fine.  The upper parking lot is not recommended due to its small size and road conditions beyond the gate.

Cost: There is no fee at this trailhead.

- Kahtoolas or other traction footwear are optional but highly recommended as the trail will be snowy and icy.

- trekking poles (optional but very helpful on the steeps and on rocky, muddy, and slippery areas)

- Dress in non-cotton layers so you can shed or add clothes as temps change

- Water & trail snacks

DOGS: Yes.

Wow, what a group! We had a few uber-fast climbers leading the way to help me smash my PR. Looked like everybody put in a good sweat with great views above the fog.

Canyon Rd was in great condition all the way to the lower parking lot. Kahtoolas were helpful for the trail up the face of Peak 2 and almost a necessity on the way down the drainage.

Sounds fun. I’d like to join. How the road is like? I have a small car with the low ground clearance. Would it make it? I’m new to here and would like your advice. Thanks.

I get off work around 6am. Catch a couple of zzz's before I go and I can also pick up someone if need be.

I'm at 76th and C st. So somewhere between there and the trailhead would be best for me.
