Friday Hike-Middle Fork loop

Hoping we can snowshoe and stay out of the wind with a hike around middle fork. Loop is about 10 miles and should take us 4-5 hours. Minimal elevation gain, more of a gentle meander.

So Shane maybe even your accu weather underestimated the snow?? I think we were all hiking in the eye of the storm!

The loop seemed shorter than I remember, maybe it was the good company and weather was much nicer than I was expecting.

Although famished near the end this was a nice, pleasant Middle Fork loop stroll. Interesting weather, nice dogs, interesting people.

next time remind me to take a break and we can eat lunch :) I don't usually eat much when I hike so I forget to take break. I'm sure you aren't the only one who was hungry :))))

Yea, I grabbed my chicken-bacon wrap when we stopped at the clump of trees in the wind storm and ate it on the move. Net calories maybe zero?

Steady pace on a fast trail got us back with time to spare before the snowstorm hit. Good to see you all!

No need for snowshoes sounds good to me! There is some significant elevation gain between Prospect Heights and Glen Alps, I think.

Who knew Maureen the elevation snob. Haha. JK. Think calorie burn....

I know some side trips that could get it up to 2,000 feet. :-)

I thought there would be some snow to snowshoe but it still looks bare up there so kahtoolas it will be. I saw the same forecast that Shane did and if it's true won't be good up high, especially McHugh which is windy even on a good day. Robyn, maybe it's better further North or South for you and your son?

FYI I skied that loop on Sunday--poor ski conditions. No need for snow shoes unless get a bunch more snow. It is hard packed or ice. Icy with minimal snow cover especially above tree line. There were lots of hikers there and I think they were on the best mode.

What about Bear Valley to McHugh? I have my son and his friend here for the week and we were thinking about this hike. Or, we could do the ridge walk from South Fork to Rendezvous. Open to ideas...would like to go with you guys.

I would do either one of those with you

Guess we ought to see about the wind first.

I'm a maybe. They're saying up to 45mph winds on the ridges Friday at the moment so a valley sounds more fun.

Rode fat bike in BLM tonight and it was slick...and hard. You might be able to use micro-spikes and no snowshoes?

if forecast changes and it' s not windy but sunny and calm I'd like to do something up high instead.

I'm open for just about anything, so I will be flexible.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
