July 4th Weekend in Seward/Lost Lake.

  • July 4, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • Lost Lake Trailhead

I have the Dale Clemens Cabin reserved for 3 nights (July 4,5,6).  Will be hanging out in Seward for activities on Friday (July 4), and (weather permitting) doing some hiking around Lost Lake on Saturday and Sunday.  Back to Anchorage on Monday.

Cabin sleeps 4-6 comfortably (could add 2 more if they were willing to bring tents).

Nice close-up photos, Pilar. And great shot of that bearded stumpy guy in the 22nd photo.

It looks like rain is in the forecast, so I may stay in the cabin after all if there's still room

Hi! Is anyone just going to Seward for the day of July 4 who might give me a ride/company? I'm new and carless.

  • Pilar

Norm, John and I can join you on Friday, and leave Sunday. So glad we finally manage to join you in one of your trips.

Since I'm coming from peters Creek, I could meet You Yulia at Hiland if you can get there, otherwise at your house.

Pilar, thank you very much for being ready to give me a ride; but since Lilli can pick me up very close to my house (instead of my husband driving me all the way to South Anchorage), I'll go with her. See you soon, Yulia

I'll be down there running the race on Friday if any of you come to town :-)

I don't. But I usually finish around 1:20 and I'll be decked out in red, white, and blue

Re Cabin, we have the cabin from 12:00 noon (on Friday) onward. I will probably come up in the late afternoon (after the races/etc. are all finished). Anyone wishing to hike in earlier, feel free to do so (make yourself at home (after 12 noon)).

I'm assuming all are familiar with the location of the cabin/trail. If not, we can discuss during the day in
    Seward.

Kneely, and others tenting, come on up and we'll find a legal spot to setup. Good luck in the race.

we'll watch the races also, then head up late afternoon. Trail is well marked so Brian and I are comfortable hiking up alone if it works out that way.

  • Lilli

The bike sounds like a good idea, I've heard Seward gets really jammed up. I may have to leave Juneau with my car...in the shade.

I'm headed out of town early Monday morning. Out of cell coverage till late Thursday.

Re Friday, my plan is to drive down either late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Will be hanging out in town during the day with kids/grandkids. Can get together with any/all who are doing the same. Give me a call at some point (so I'll have your number in my phone) or leave a number in the comments. Saturday and Sunday am open to options. I WILL BE BRINGING MY BIKE TO SEWARD, I usually park out in the harbor area and use the bike for all in- town travel (weather dependant).

Norm, are we driving down in caravan or are we meeting in Seward. I would like to see the beginning of the ladies race at 11am. And what time shall we meet to hike to the cabin. Looking forward to this weekend.

I've never hiked at Exit glacier. Any interest Friday or Sunday going there? Would it be more fun being in Seward or at the cabin for the fireworks?

    2 · June 25

    • Lilli

I'm up for driving down early in the day on the 4th, spending a bit of time in Seward during the race, driving to exit glacier and hike to check it out, then going to Dale Clemens. Norm, Pilar, Kneely, Maureen what's your plan? If town is too much fun, alternatively, we could go to Exit Glacier Sunday PM or Monday.

      1 · June 28

    • Pilar

Lilli, we will also drive down early on the 4th, would love to cheer the runners from somewhere up on the mountain. Would like to do exit glacier too, and if we can hike/run to lost lake on Sunday.

Looking for a fun run on the 4th, anyone planning on running lost lake? Pilar?? :)

  • Norm J.

Hi Pilar, You must have done something to anger the Meetup gods. I put you back, we'll see what happens?

    1 · June 26

  • Norm J.

The Forest Service regulations limits the total # of persons using the cabin to 8. That includes the area
around the cabin for a radius of 300 ft. If there are some (above the 8 limit) willing to tent, we would have to pick a tent site 301 feet from the cabin. There is a nice meadow just to the west of cabin which would make a nice site. Should be lots of wildflowers.
Make sure you sign up on waiting list so we know you're coming.

    June 25

    • Pilar

Norm, interesting the meetup app just removed me from the attendees list and put me on the waiting list.

      June 25

    • Lilli

Hmmm Pilar, if the weather'a decent I wouldn't mind tenting. So excited!

      June 25

  • ShaneD

Jealous, wish I could join you guys and camp across the creek with a view of the Resurrections, but heading for my MCAK Hatcher pass trip the next day.

    Enjoy!!

    June 24

  • Lilli

Darn, I guess I wasn't fast enough on the draw. I'm on the wait list for just me, but I could bring my daughter or a friend.

    June 24

  • Cooper

Hey Norm, what would you think about tenters? I have a campsite at Trail River reserved but this sounds way more fun!

    June 24

  • Kneely T.

I am doing the race and will drive down the morning of the 4th. I would be happy sleeping in a tent outside the cabin the night of the 4th. I probably will not stay July 5-7. Although climbing North Resurrection on July 6 is an interesting idea. Perhaps Ascension. I need to talk to my friend Connie before committing to stay after the 4th.
If I can't stay in a tent outside the cabin, I still would enjoy hanging out with you all after the race on the 4th. I can put up a tent elsewhere if necessary. Breakfast on the 5th can be fun, in a restaurant in town. But a vigorous climb on the 5th would not be fun for me.

Welcome all. Will swap details as time nears. Any specific questions, fire away! [masked]

I'll have to leave Sunday too, I'm bringing a tent and a very cool young man :)
