Gray Jay Peak is in the Crow Pass area. It's the neighbor of Camp Robber peak, which is described in "50 Hikes in the Chugach" which every Anchorage Adventurer should own. Historical nugget: I met Bruce Kittridge while hiking Camp Robber about 6 years ago.
The hike begins on the Crow Pass Trail. We will side-hill to enter Clear
Creek Valley as the Crow Pass Trail drops towards Raven Creek. We'll follow
moraines to Clear Creek, which we will have to cross. If there isn't a snow bridge, be prepared for the creek crossing. Next, we'll hike up scree to Steamroller pass. From there it's an easy walk to the broad summit of Grey Jay.
To give you an idea of difficulty, if you include Camp Robber (which I don't intend to do), the hike is 15.6 miles and 7500' of elevation gain. This is a VERY big day. Anticipate 10 hours of hiking, plus an hour drive either way.
