Gray Jay Peak

Gray Jay Peak is in the Crow Pass area.  It's the neighbor of Camp Robber peak, which is described in "50 Hikes in the Chugach" which every Anchorage Adventurer should own.  Historical nugget: I met Bruce Kittridge while hiking Camp Robber about 6 years ago.

The hike begins on the Crow Pass Trail. We will side-hill to enter Clear
Creek Valley as the Crow Pass Trail drops towards Raven Creek. We'll follow
moraines to Clear Creek, which we will have to cross.  If there isn't a snow bridge, be prepared for the creek crossing.  Next, we'll hike up scree to Steamroller pass.  From there it's an easy walk to the broad summit of Grey Jay.

To give you an idea of difficulty, if you include Camp Robber (which I don't intend to do), the hike is 15.6 miles and 7500' of elevation gain.  This is a VERY big day.  Anticipate 10 hours of hiking, plus an hour drive either way.

Wow, what a big day. In one weekend, I hiked the elevation of Rainier...which is my next adventure! Fabulous weather and awesome views. Was nice to re-visit this area.

Would it be alright for me to at least complete the trip to Crows Pass and decided at that point if I can still hang? I hike a good bit but don't want to hold anyone up..at that point it looks like there could be nice views at least. Crampons needed at the peak area?

I've just signed up and am interested in possibly tagging along for this one...but I don't have a car because I'm only here for the summer....is there a chance I would be able to carpool?

Taylor, you don't mention where you'd need a ride from. We're carpooling from Carrs Huffman. Can you get yourself there?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
