Bird Ridge

3400 feet elevation in 2.5 miles, then a long ridge walk. Steep hike, great views, totally worth it! I plan to hike to the Overlook, which will take all day.

We'll gain 4600 feet and hike 13 miles. To finish this hike you'll need to be very fit. Although it's possible to turn around at the top of the ridge, you may be hiking back alone which is not recommended unless you're familiar with the trail and have bear spray.

Bring wind/rain layer, plenty of water (none will be available on hike) snacks and lunch, trekking poles, bear spray.

I posted my Overlook photos. Although I took them in random order, I tried to arrange them in sequence from left to right as best I could.

Nice catching up with some I haven't seen in a while. Thank you Greg, Walt and Shane for convincing me to do the scramble at the end and for giving me the courage to get up there-what a view!

Aw-shucks, Maureen. You scampered up the Overlook like a squirrel and boogied on that scary rock at the top! ;)

Accuweather says tomorrow will be sunny. Bring sunscreen and bugspray, as well as lots of water and easy snacks.

NWS forecasts SE wind 10-30 mph. Should help blow away the bugs and dry the sweat, but bugs could be a problem in sheltered areas. Last week we had bug problems during a calm day on McHugh.

I figure I'll just turn around when I need to. :) I'll bring water for myself and the pup & be aware I need to be home for class in the eve.

This is shaping up to be my toughest hike since joining this group. I'm in OK condition for this, but concerned about hydration. I'm told there's zero snow on the ridge, so I'm bringing a full water bladder plus one or two extra bottles to cache along the way.

Looks like there's some up-and-down on the ridge that will add elevation gain over and above the nominal elevation gain of 4600 feet. "50 Hikes in CSP" says the elevation gain to the Overlook is 5500 feet. This means RT for 2nd leg of this hike would be 8 miles and 2100 feet.

I'll probably turn around early to make it to my 5:30 yoga class.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
