We had so much fun on our recent hike to the ridge so now we're heading to McHugh Peak. The trail is approx. 3 miles overall with initial gain of 1,000 ft within a mile to the ridge, then 2 miles to McHugh Peak with another 1,000 foot gain. Spectacular views of surrounding mountains, Turnagain arm, the inlet and the city.
This hike is for anyone who wants or needs to be slower for any reason.
Expect to be out 5-6 hours. Bring water, snacks and hiking poles if you'd like as this is relatively steep hike, mostly above treeline. Dress in non-cotton layers and bring a wind/rain layer along with hat/gloves as this area can be windy. Bear spray is a good idea also. Well-behaved dogs welcome.
Meet at Stork Park to carpool to this limited parking trailhead.
