Slowpoke Hike: Near Point

This hike is for anyone who needs or wants to go slow.

Yay! Per Caitlin's suggestion: let's meet at Basher Rd. trailhead and head up toward Near Point via the Wolverine Bowl trail. Expect to be out around 2.5 hours. Elevation gain depending upon how far we get up Near Point.
BRING: wind/rain layers, good footwear, non-cotton clothing, water and snacks, bear spray
OPTIONAL: hiking poles, binocs

Somewhat limited parking at this trailhead so meet at North Bivouac trailhead to carpool.  It's on your left before the road begins a climb toward the Basher TH.

You'all kicked my butt, but what an adventure though. Didn't know anybody could keep that pace straight up. Don't Alaskians know about cut-backs???? LOL

Sun then clouds but no rain. Trish & I were the only slowpokes though. Nice to meet everyone!

Thank you for posting Maria. Big blueberries on the hillside between Wolverine and Near Point.

I'm a no now due to battling a cold and deciding to rest up. Looks like I missed the cutoff to change my RSVP

I changed to a "no." Sorry, it looks like the other group could merge no. It doesn't look like workers here will be thru in time for me to get there by start time and they want to finish up today.

I will give up my 2 spots also, that will leave only 1 on the waiting list. Have fun.

Janetta, For the sake of those who work I'd still be willing to go at 5.30. However, leaving from Basher is only about 1/2 the distance to the base of Near Point as from Prospect. If anyone anticipates the two groups meeting at the base we should leave by 5. Al

I have done this many times so I will withdraw. May go to Prospect TH and see if I meet you all on the trip.

Al if I can find a few people to join in on the prospect trail head I may do the same to open it up to others on the waiting list. What start time are you planning?

I am having work done on my house and they should be thru. However it fills and things are iffy, I'll change my RSVP to give someone else a chance.
My window faces Near Point and I've never climbed it, so I'm looking forward to it.

I'm in. Any specific reason you are going from Basher and not Prospect Heights?

    • Maria

      I like Basher better!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
