Abbott Loop Community Park (map)
Posted for Sunny. Plan to XC ski the groomed trails. Skate or Classic welcome. No dogs on groomed trails. Dress for the weather, bring water as will be out for a couple hours likely.
I'm going to bring my snowshoes too, just in case it's not really skatable ( depending on how much snow we get, when they groom etc.) . Could do some snowshoing off the tour trail for a change of scenery and something different.
I used to work for BLM who manage and groom these trails. While these are groomed trails they are open to all non-motorized users including horses and folks with dogs. It is different on many of the city managed groomed trails which are closed to dogs, such as the adjoining trails around Service HS.
Hi Sunny, was skiing hillside this afternoon and the groomer hadn't been down the hill on the tour trail yet. Guess we can see in the morning whether they've groomed down there, and decide whether to relocate up to hillside or snowshoe instead etc. It will be too slow and "heavy going" to be fun skating from Abbott unless it gets knocked down some first.
I have a meeting in the morning till 9:00
I will let you decide :)))
Let me know where I will meet you what ever place is going to be :))))
Thank you Shane I will see you tomorrow after noon :)))))
Sunny
Hi Sunny, I'll check again about noon to see if they've groomed the tour trail but as of now it doesn't look like it.
How about we meet up at the far end of the car park at the hillside ski area ( where the ski lifts are inside the gate ) at the end closest to the gasline. I'm sure we can ski there, I'll still bring my snowshoes in case we decide to do both !
Hi Sunny, yes inside the gates where the little ski lift is, down the far end by the gas line. Heading out in 5mins so will see you soon.
Thank you so much Shane it was fun :))))
