Glen Alps - Flat Top Parking Lot (map)
Plan to hike up Flattop once a week to get into shape for hiking season. The extreme top of this hike, last 200 feet or so to summit should be done with ice axe and is too scary for me so I will turn around at that point but if you are experienced and brave then you may choose to summit.
Flattop gains 1350 feet elevation in 1.5 miles so it's fairly steep. Poles and ice grippers will be needed. Ice ax and crampons if you plan to reach the top. I will strap snowshoes onto my pack just because we've had so much snow this year but I expect trail will be packed. Can be windy so bring scarf or balaclava, small pack, the usual non-cotton layers, snack, the usual safety essentials, camera, headlamp just in case.
We should be out less than 2 hours. If you will be late and want us to wait please call/ text me 3068973 otherwise I tend to not wait around.
could be icy Melodie and it's steep. I could meet you somewhere on O'malley if you want to ride up with me.
I'm really tempted. Let me see how conferences go. Will text you. I'd just wear Ice Bugs & jog back down once it gets "pole worthy."
Holly, I will have an extra pair of crampons and poles if you would like to borrow them. They fit all woman's sizes.
Thanks :) I'm lazy, tho. When it's beyond Ice Bugs, I'm outta there -- back to Mommyhood & cookies.
I actually will bring two extra sets of crampons, and one extra set of poles for whoever claims them first...
Shelby, you'll want to have icegrippers or snowshoes, I think icegrippers will be better
Id like to go but my car probably won't make it up there. If I can carpool with someone that would be great. 5033132471
What is the road going up there like? I have AWD, but no studs.
