Coyote Ridge on McHugh Creek above Bear Valley is a real calf burner. Coyote Ridge is my personal name for it. A few years ago my friend's young huskie dog ran off to cavort with 9 coyotes romping around up there. Meet on the little road spur just past Stork Park parking lot, just off Rabbit Creek Rd. We can carpool from here if anyone wants to. I suggest meeting at the road sapur because the parking lot will be full with soccer families. Plan on about 2 -3 hours, up one ridge and down the next ridge over. I hike with ski poles on steep ones like this. Dress in layers and bring wind shell, warm hat and light gloves. You never know what conditions might be like 1500 - 2000' above. Bring plenty of water and a light snack. Dogs OK; I'll have Chili and Caesar. Like most of these Tuesday nighters, this one is OK for those who want to start up but not go all the way. It is so nice above Bear Valley I recommend this hike to all, even those who do not want the elevation gain for fitness. Come part way up, savor the views and check this place out for berry picking in August.
