Hillside Heart 'n Lungers - The Dome

The Dome is approached from a trailhead at the end of Campbell Airstrip/ Basher/ Stuckagain Heights Road. Meet at 6 PM at the end of the the road. Park close together so we do not irritate the home owner who has blocked off with his driveway what was for years the public access to the trail. We'll hike downhill to the North Fork of Campbell Creek then back up the other side. We may get to the Dome and if we are feeling real good may stride on up the ridge above. Plan on about 3 hours or a bit more: down to the creek, cross on a small bridge then it is all uphill from there. Never as steep as soem Tueday hikes, if we keep moving, this will still be a heart and lung pumper. I hike with ski poles on steep ones like this. Dress in layers and bring wind shell, warm hat and light gloves. You never know what conditions might be like 1500 - 2000' above. Bring plenty of water and a light snack. Dogs OK; I'll have Chili and Caesar and hope they stay away from porcupines. Like most of these Tuesday nighters, this one is OK for those who want to start up but not go all the way. It is so nice up in this part of the Anchorage skyline hills that I recommend this hike to all, even those who do not want the elevation gain for fitness. Come part way up, savor the views and check this place out for berry picking in August. While not a hike requirement it has become tradition to make it to Moose's Tooth after the hike. Even if you miss the hike you can join us at the Tooth about 10:30 or 11 PM

good hike. I'd never been on this trail before and it was a good one to learn. neat that way this one pops out onto the tundra all of a sudden. If you have the time you can just go and go and go for hours on this trail

Very enjoyable evening hanging with the Tuesday crowd for the hike and dining after. Glad to see that the trailhead and Park access seems preserved for the moment.

WOW what a crowd and I think just about everyone who wanted to made it above the treeline to take in the great views. For any who missed it, this hike was awesome and so was the 'after event' at the MT.

Fun hike. Beautiful views from the top. Too bad that big cloud didn't cool things off on the way up instead of at the top! The pizza and beer afterwards were great too.

I was late but able to meet everyone at the top. It was a great hike. I like this trail especially in the fall when the colors are changing. Let us do it again in early September.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
