Palmer Creek - Car camping and hiking - Go down Friday night or Saturday morning

************ Posted for Susanne ******************** Palmer Creek, near Hope - Car camping and hiking - Go down Friday night or Saturday morning I will be going to Hope sometime late Friday the 17th and camping in that general area. Others can meet up at the Carrs Huffman around 8 am Sat to carpool to Hope. I will meet anyone at the Resurrection trailhead at 10 am sat for a 10:15 carpool to the top of Palmer creek road. This road is narrow and steep for the last 5 miles to the Coeur d'Alene campground. We will drive as far as possible and hike the remainder of the way to the lakes and falls. This hike is a mellow to moderate depending on your ability. I am a charter member of the "gasping, wheezers" so slow, steady, climbing but consistent going is my trend. This hike goes through a hanging valley with tarns along the way. It passes a waterfall and although steep it is constistent and the footing is excellent. The trail to the first lake is about a mile. This hike is listed as #15 Palmer Creek Lakes in the 55 ways to hike Southcentral Alaska. There are options for rock scrambling and ridge climbing along the way. Some of the Kenal caribou may be spotted here. For Sat night the option is to camp at the Couer d'Alene campground or any of the other areas around Hope. Other options include to hike either Hope Point or Gull rock on Sunday before heading home. Any questions call Susanne at[masked] Thanks ( the faceless no picture one.)

We went down Friday nite and car camped, meeting Susanne at the Res. Pass trail parking area. Although we didnt go on her hike, we had previously reserved Caribou Crk Cabin on Sat. nite. It was great meeting up with everyone Sat. morning prior to hiking and if I were in better shape and could hike longer distances, I would have loved doing both hikes, but right now 5-7 miles is my limit. Going out to the cabin, we scared a big black bear out of his tree...what motivation to hike faster!! LOL. This was our first hike all the way to CC cabin. We loved it. We want to plan a hike here when the leaves are fall colored...but within my distance range...and BTW, Ive got to be the slowest hiker ever...it took us around 5 hrs to hike that 7 miles in...only 3 hours out...I swear it was twenty7 miles in not just 7, HaHa. Actually it was the heat, we stopped alot to drink water and rest. But came out in drizzle and it only took 3 hrs. All in all-excellent hike!!!

The weather was so-so, but got in two good hikes and had a lot of fun. Palmer Creek Valley is gorgeous and tho I may never make it to the top of Hope Point, I'm glad we scrambled up part way! And camping was lots of fun- especially enjoyed Gerry twirling Susanne's new tent!

Great fun. Love the area and the new hike. Smokey campfires are the best.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
