Sunday Early Risers Lets Go -- exact location TBD

I am looking at the weather thinking maybe we want to stay down low in the Valley for a hike Sunday. You can check
weather here. If we stay down low we will walk up Bird &/or Penguin Creeks. For a walk like that I suggest RUBBER BOOTS as there will be large pools of standing water and MUD. If you do not have rubber boots just plan on whatever you wear going home real dirty. Bring spare shoes and socks either way and a large plastic bag to store the muddy footwear in for the drive home. If we do opt to go up high on Bird Ridge, running/ trail shoes or hiking boots will be the footwear of choice. Gaiters will be a plus to have on a ridge hike (though not necessary if you do not have them). You can view &/ or print the map for
Bird Ridge and Bird Creek and part of Penguin Creek on the Adventurers web site FILES section. Scroll through the files and find the map labeled Bird Ridge. Questions or comments? Contact --- Doug -- [masked]

Excellent first hike. Everyone was very welcoming and I wasn't even sore the next day!

Weather was perfect - right on the edge of winter without tipping to it just yet. A flat walk out through the valley until just after Penquin Creek where it starts to rise. Not bad. We got above tree line turning back when the wind started getting too strong. So glad Quie found Snickers in the parking lot when she got back.

Lovely hike, and a great time to start. Nice hike to do again in the late spring time. Also would be some nice ski/snow shoeing area perhaps (depending on snow machine usage)

About 16 of us and 5 or 6 dogs met up and hiked in the Bird to Penguin Creek valleys. We got above treelike in Penguin Creek and turned around when the weather was turning a bit breezy and it was obvious it would be a longer walk than the day allowed to reach any sort of "goal". So, it was a very pleasant exploratory hike. Good time had by all. Good stop for beer at the Brown Bear Saloon in Indian on the way back.
