joFriday evening outing on snowshoes - Kincaid Park beach walk

+++++ Posted for
Jo Friday
+++++ ABOUT THE EVENT:
This is the first joFriday Night Trek, so it's
a mellow one. I'm all about
mellow.
WHAT: snowshoe along the beach and/or the ridge in Kincaid from Jodpher to the Chalet - or from the Chalet down to and along the beach and back. Whichever the group prefers....So, either carpool over to the Jodphur parking lot and then snowshoe along the beach trail and trails or woods or ridge back to the Chalet or do a loop
From there, food and beer, of course!
WHEN: Friday, Jan 18, meet at 6:30 PM
WHERE: Meet in the Kincaid Park chalet. Once inside, turn right and hang out at the tables in the large room.
HOW TO GET TO THE MEETUP LOCATION: Take Raspberry west til it ends at the chalet in Kincaid Park; Meet inside the chalet
DURATION: figure about 1 1/2 hour, It is winter and it is night, so we (or I) don't want to be out there too long.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: -- It's cold out there, folks, so plan for it: -- dress in layers, bring extras fhats, fleece layers, neck gaiter or neck scarf. -- don't forget headlamps and extra batteries!! -- ALSO bring grippers in case we encounter icy conditions going down to and up from the beach. -- And, from personal experience,
BRING GOOD MITTENS!!!! -- Bring the cameras, of course. --
NO COTTON CLOTHING PLEASE --
Bring ski poles even if you do not usually use them when you snowshoe. We may go off trail into deep snow or want the push and balance of poles coming back up the hill from the beach. I suggest adjustable poles (about $16 for cheapies at Wal Mart or $60+ at AMH or REI -- but immensely better quality. I suggest flick-lock poles if you buy a good set, rather than the twisty lock type poles)

    Beautiful evening and great conditions: moonlit, mild, good snow and the trail all to ourselves. A good start to the weekend.

    Great time! Mellow as advertised. Good snow and beautiful moonlit saunter down the beach. Jo bravely led the group on the climb up the bluff. Almost balmy temp - seemed spring-like!

    Wow....talk about a beautiful evening, and a great snowshoe. Definitely someplace I will go back to often to snowshoe this winter.

    not quite as mellow as I thought with the scaling steep hills, but otherwise I had an excellent time.

    I arrived late and must have missed the group. It was probably for the best. Getting four kids to snowshoe wasn't the most brilliant idea I've ever had.
