Introduction

I'm a lifelong Alaskan, Realtor, and mom of 2 small children. I like to fish, garden, spend time outdoors, and am interested in healthy living and eating.

Welcome, what are your dreams of alternative energy and living in your home, community, state, and world

I would love to see a healthy world for my children to grow up in. We subsistence fish, grow our own veggies in the summer, belong to 2 CSAs, and try to live in a non-toxic, environmentally friendly manner. My dream is to see sustainable farming, agriculture, and healthy livestock available on a major scale. GMO foods and feed lot cattle are not only destroying our health, they are also destroying our environment. We are bombarded with toxins and I just want to be able to raise healthy children.

In Be the change You Want To See In the World -What change do you want to see and be a part of

Mandatory labeling of GMOs (and eliminating as many as possible), encourage organic farming methods, encourage livestock being raised in a more natural manner and eating natural food (chickens being free-range eating weeds & bugs, free-range cattle eating grass, not corn), eliminating toxins (everything from air fresheners to toxic cleaners to fluoride in the water), less waste (plastic water bottles, disposable diapers, etc.).

If it takes one step at a time, what steps are you wanting to help with

Anything I can do to bring awareness to the issue and motivate people to stand against Monsanto and GMO food.

What are you're interests and capabilities you would like to learn and/or share

Organic gardening, vermicomposting, using cloth diapers, using home-made green cleaning supplies, fishing.

At what level of Action do you have time for and want to give right now and/or in the future

My children are almost 2 and almost 5, and I sell real estate, so my time is fairly limited. I'm happy to use my computer to do campaigns and send e-mails, and I'd love to go to the occasional seminar on greener, cleaner, sustainable living.

  • Hello Valesa! I'm new on here. My daughter and I enjoy Wicca and Native American spirituality. I have been married to a wonderful man for almost 17 yrs. and he finds me amusing as we are so different;)
I have created a space with peaceful energy in our cabin behind our house (goat barn attached;). If you would like to visit our hobby farm, your kids might enjoy our little "petting zoo" of 3 goats, let me know. I love to share my experiences and joy with others!

  • Hi Valesa, I don't know if you're in town, but if you are, this is just a reminder that the reading group is meeting tomorrow, and that we'll be finishing up the "Women's Encyclopedia" and starting "The Field" by Lynn McTaggert. Hope to see you there.
