Glad you omitted the preceding dialogue of the movie. But originally it was Confucius

I am enjoying this Fred Davis book ... The Book of Undoing ... it is available in Kindle version or in print from Amazon, and probably other places as well. I will be going through it over and over again, and attempting to reduce it to a simple formula for my own use.

What have you figured out so far? Does it reduce to a formula?

Well the first part... he guides the listener to think of a past pleasant memory, to re-live it as vividly as possible, and then to notice the sense of awareness-presence which is there as part of the memory.
Pointing out that the awareness-presence is not any of the details of the memory; it is not any thought.
Then he guides to select another memory, and do the same thing. First remember it in vivid detail. Then notice the sense of awareness which is there. And then notice that the awareness is not any thought; it is not any of the details.
Then he guides the listener to notice that the details of the various memories are different. But the awareness-presence is exactly the same.
The details change; thoughts come and go... but awareness-presence is unchanging.

That makes sense. I often have the wordless thought: "it has always been this way". Then I link in. And I remember having that thought before... And I link in... I have never met anyone else who shares my sense of it though. Everyone comes to it differently, from what I can tell.
It is like building a house. The house is there from the first nail. But as more and more goes in, it become more present and visible, until you finally walk p with the key and push the door open and it is all there. If only we didn't need to go out from it again...
How far along are you? Still tearing down the old house? Remember to use the Zikr.

Great to see some great works from the Vedanta
0 · April 22, 2014
So, who pays the rent - to whom and why?
I am not a scholar of the Vedantas since its very deep , even for people who have read it a thousand times.. But yes I do like the quiz ;) , Because I often create my own Vedantas too.. Rent is only a means to an end.. Pay rent to your "shop" (like body) just so that to reach a state of the superconsciousness. Once you have reached that stage , rent and a shop like body looses its meaning. I will end by saying this may help you do some Atma Vichara..
Hmmm.... that seems to be at odds with "I am changeless, I am partless, I am without purpose, I am eternal" - what does "changeless" even mean if I can change? Who is the "I" that is eternal if it's not the same "I"
These words are relative to context.. And not to be generalized . Lot of us do this and wonder and wonder again :)
Now you've really lost me - how many contexts can eternal, changeless, partless, and without purpose have?
This is where the sandal comes in.
0 · April 23, 2014
Context changes because I is ever changing.. It can be made still but life will not allow to be so for long.. Also no wisdom can help anyone until your I can see it.. people who have realized they way they see what others do..
Wisdom of books and others is a guide.. You learn the truth from you life. A guru can not make one enlighten. Only the self can.. So for now just know.. Until you are ready to walk it..
But I is the toughed part.. if you know you , then you know me and everything else..
"My *I*s have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord..." I agree completely with your statement that knowing the self, one knows everyone. (The sandal thing is from the story of Tilopa and Naropa. Mark already has heard it from me.)
More words on "Compleness" - if more will do any good: http://tap3x.net/EMBT...
A good amalgamation of thoughts and experiences..
OK, I will try another topic that won't get any replies: Music. Does anyone besides me feel that music is often a trance-like experience? I listen to a style called "Trance", so someone must agree with me.
0 · April 9, 2014
Can't say I've ever experienced a "trance" before. I listen to meditation music and Theta brain wave sounds at night but haven't noticed any trance when listening to my particular music. What do you listen to?
Try: "Tandem Breathing" by Paul Keeley. See you next week! OK, also try Kaskade "Eyes" or "4 am" (remix), Deadmou5, 16 Bit Lolitas "Murder Weapon", Avicii, Armin Van Buuren, Robbie Rivera "Departures" , Dolle Jolle "Balearic Incarnation". Kaskade has been my favorite since 4 AM altered the course of my life 3 years ago.

Almost anything on which you can focus can induce trance.
0 · April 13, 2014
True, but music is particularly powerful, and you can listen while walking, driving, doing mindless things like cooking.... My definition of "Trance" is: "the distance to what you desire has been reduced to zero: you are there!"

Music has sound Frequencies. And its powerful. You can even use this for good or bad effects.. All things in nature have a unique frequency attached to them and frequency flows around time.
The sound frequencies or mantras have no beginning or end. They are as old as space and the universe. Many ancient cultures discovered that the mind is made up of subtle energies, in the form of sound frequencies. The mind has a sound pattern; the unconscious has a sound pattern.
These sound frequencies, also known as mantras, are a part of the space energy (space energy is one of the five elements, the others being earth, water, fire and air). These sounds/mantras were discovered by yogis in deep states of trance, while meditating on space energy.
We can 'tune' your brain to certain brainwave patterns to receive positive benefits such as psychic development, relaxation, healing and enhanced learning. Music can effect hormones as well.

Very nicely said. I would bet about one person out of 10,000 understands you! The problem isn't knowing the truth, it is getting people to listen. Blessings.
Yeah, I'm one of the 10,000. What's a "bad" frequency (in hertz)? I'm guessing it's whatever bands the FCC gave to CBS, NBC and ABC - their programming is dreck.
Well I wouldn't give you a head start on the "bad" mantras.. Btw , I am more of a traditional guy so I know bit more on vocalizing mantras than just measuring in Hrtz. Suffix to say some of them can put you in a negative and stressful state !
There is nothing good or bad... until you apply it to yourself with a trowel!
Duality does exits that breaks harmony. But we never should seek it..
This links to an article describing rapport sittings that'll do more justice describing them than I have here. http://tatfoundation.org/forum2014-04.htm#1

Wow, so glad nobody wrote that! I know why supernovas explode. Had an argument with an Astrophysicist once... "We can't get the computer models to explode." "I know, you aren't taking the neutrinos in to account." He pondered. That is why God made them, it didn't work right the first time.
One-way Rapport is Energy Healing. "See it as whole."
This work by Byron Katie begins like the two-person exercise that I described, with one person asking a simple question, the other gives an answer, and the first says thank you, all while looking in their eyes. https://www.youtube.co... "The truth behind Addiction" series. I am so glad I never wanted to have children.
Went to the Beach! Rapture! Write if you want to go. Let's have a Field Trip! From In-quire to Ex-quisite! Ex. Quiz. IT.

Cool - like rob said a field trip to the beach would be nice sometime. :)
I vote for a field trip to the Meher Baba center at Myrtle beach. Though any beach is nice.
OK, please describe it? I have heard of Him, I just don't know what the Center is or what we would see/do there. And yes, any beach is nice.
The idea of meeting more frequently came up. This brings the question of location. I'm pretty sure we are limited to meeting once a month a at the library. Any thoughts? What other days and times are appealing to people?

West Columbia library? : ) My apartment has no furniture... But if a few people brought chairs or something I could provide 4 chairs, tea, coffee, etc, and I have 2 bathrooms. It is in the Edenwood area, very easy to get to, off Charleston Hwy. I have no standing commitments.
We could have Pizza, too. Pizza Hut is next door, but also other restaurants. It is a great area to live.
I've got some folding chairs.
The comments seem to have vanished into the ether from which they came.
No, they are attached... to the previous meeting. They just... wouldn't come along. Silly comments!
Next idea: the consciously known is always after the fact. By the time we come up with a "reason" for doing something, it is already over, or at least the decision has been made. Pirsig said this. So, we "think" that we have all these values, beliefs, ideals, morals, etc... They are pasted on afterwards, not relevant. It is pure invention. When we were talking about something like this, I was reminded of the idea that "Dreaming goes on all the time" although consciousness is too "loud" to let us hear it. Start to doze off, and you see it. The "unconscious" is far more conscious than we ourselves are, and knows vastly more. Ask an animal. Or someone painting, or fighting in combat, or dancing, or...
The inspiration for this group came from a weekly meeting in Raleigh. Some of their meetings are available as mp3s for free at www.selfinquiry.org
It's going really well. Great Job, Rob!
