Monthly meetup - October

Tonight will be the fourth Tuesday of the month again and we're holding another social meetup at King Street Brewhouse. We’ll kick off at 6:30pm but please feel free to arrive any time from 6pm onwards to grab a drink, some food and have a chat.

It's a lightning talk meetup again so we've lined up 3 short talks:

- Justin Mclean - "See Monkey Run - testing your app with the Monkey tool"

- Swami Natrajan - "Customising AOSP"

- Sunil Samarasinghe - "An Overview of Robolectric"

We still need speakers for November so get volunteering!

See you all there!

Hope you all enjoyed last night. We're keen to hear your feedback on how you found the night and what you'd like to see at the next one. I've uploaded Justin and Sunil's talks to the files section of this meetup page (Swami's to follow). The code Justin showed us last night is from his book (chapter 10) and is here on github:

Sunil also sent through a few tips and links to accompany his slides:

    Robolectric & Background Tasks
Robolectric provides the Robolectric.runBackgroundTasks() method, which ensures any pending background tasks will immediately execute during a test. Assertions can then apply to the results of those tasks.

    Emulation
Stop using your current emulator NOW, and use Genymotion (http://www.genymotion.com/)

    Thanks for coming along. G

@georgina - that venue is excellent. Being close to CBD and having a presentation space out the back is as good as it gets. I'd suggest 2 things: (1) get jugs of beer as the service was slooooow and possibly cheaper for sponsors. (2) have everyone standup at the start rather than sit down so chatting is a bit easier. Rest of the format was great.

Thanks for your feedback, David. Your second point is something I too noticed but harder to organise, unfortunately. I might try and see if the venue can set up the chairs and tables in a different formation to make it a bit easier to chat to everyone. Hope that will help!

Monkey tools seems fine, ran few time for 5k events, no crash.
Thanks Justin for reminding about this easy to use testing tool.

I know the meetup was pretty good... sadly I couldn't assist to this one. Looking forward to the next one.

Sorry, I search the place for 30 mins, but still can not find it. Can u make a Billboard in front of your meeting building the next time?

Oh sorry you couldn't find us, Sheng! We'll be in the same place for the November monthly meetup, so, as you walk in to the King Street Brewhouse, walk past the bar and down a few stairs then turn to your right. There is a room there with a presentation screen and a few tables and chairs where we'll be set up. The bar staff are really friendly and know where we are so if you have any trouble next month, please ask them and they'll help direct you. Hope to see you at the next one :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
