Monthly meetup - January

We're all set for the first monthly meetup of the year! The fourth Tuesday of the month falls on the 28th January and we're holding it at our usual venue, the King Street Brewhouse from 6pm.

There will be 3 talks, starting at about 6:30pm:

- Andy Kelly: "EventBus for Android: Decoupling your application"
- Paul Bizannes: "Programming the Sony SmartWatch"
- Neal Maloney: "Fun With Sensors in Android Old and New"

We're all set for speakers this month but if you'd like to get involved and do a short talk at the February meetup, please email me at [masked]

I asked a question last night about Robolectric not finding Android resources from the main module of the project. The suggested solution was to switch the Robolectric tests with the Instrument Tests so that the Robolectric ones were in the same module with the resources.

Unfortunately that won't work because the gradle-android-test-plugin I'm using ( is incompatible with the standard android gradle plugin so they can't be together.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? My code is here:

I am not entirely sold on wearables but the Sony Smart Watch seems very interesting, so I am looking forward to that presentation especially.

I have Cocos2d apps in Windows Phone and iOS app stores. I am having quite a bit of bother trying to get Cocos2d-x environment set up on Android. I think I will bring in a MacBook Air and ask for help setting it up.

I've been battling Eclipse, I am pretty relaxed about IDEs in general but Eclipse seems really bad. People have mentioned Android Studio and IntelliJ. I don't really want to learn yet another IDE but if people have recommendations or hints and tips on getting started with either.

I tried Android studio and initially it looked really good but it did not recognize my Android tablet (that Eclipse does) nor were there any emulators I could figure out how to create for debugging so I went back to Eclipse and trust me I don't like Eclipse. If I could I would jump ship.

I've been using the Genymotion emulator with Android Studio. Works well, very fast.

Hello everyone, sorry to find the meetup group so late. At Pollfish( we are actively looking for app developers/owners with user base in Australia to deliver the inventory we have there. If you have inventory in Australia, you should consider integrating Pollfish as soon as possible to benefit from this offer. Pollfish is a new innovative monetization method for mobile developers which delivers surveys instead of ad through mobile apps. It provides minimal intrusion and high payouts (have a look on the demo app on the website)! If anyone needs more info, just drop me a message!

One wonders how this differs from yoyo button or any of the (probably many) other alternative revenue streams there are.

Not sure about less time for Q+A I think that was more interesting but I do know other people thought it went on too long.

Will we need to contribute funds for the venue?

It will cost you nothing to attend. The generous folks at Look Ahead have also covered drinks in the past. You only pay for what you eat. :)

Would it be ok to attend even though I might be a little late? Just commute from work might take me a bit longer. Cheers luca

Hi Luca, sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. Please feel to pop by when you can - it's a very informal evening. See you there.
