AngularJS Meetup – Tips and Tricks while working with Angular

It's time for another AngularJS Meetup.  This meetup will be hosted by DJ Garcia (ADP Dev Manager) and Srinivas Kusunam (ADP UI Architect) and will be held at ADP Dealer Services in Hoffman Estates.

Our speakers will be Butch Peters & Richie Peters (no relation).  Butch Peters is a Software Engineer working on the Platform team at ADP.  Richie Peters is a Software Engineer working on the Inventory team at ADP.

At ADP we are building UI's which are CRUD intensive and very complex in nature. It is an incredible journey so far, building these UI's with AngularJS. Richie and Brian will share some of the tricks they have learned which are very handy once you master them. If time permits Srinivas Kusunam will talk about some of the Angular-1.2 features which are yet to be released.

Some of the tricks they will be talking are:

  1. ngModelController – API and benefits of using it to create your own custom user input controls
  2. $templateCache – What is it and benefits of using it in your production app?
  3. Module mocking – Can we mock the whole module while doing isolated module testing?
  4. Mocking directive controllers $ngModelController
  5. $injector & $provide in unit testing– what are these and how do you use them effectively in unit testing?
  6. Testing Directives
  7. Route.resolve
  8. Testing Controllers – why you should avoid putting everything on $scope?
  9. Few more in general….

Please, please tell me there will be a video posted. I couldn't leave work early enough to make the burbs by 6 & from what I'm reading the presentation was very helpful. I've used Angular a bit and would have loved to have been there to learn some best practices. Thanks!

Don't worry video was recorded and I am sure its the matter of time for DJ Garcia to post it online. In the mean time, the code is posted on github http://angularjschica...

How does the community think about having a Hackathon on a weekend i.e. 3-4hrs (may be more) where we will build a real AngularJS application? Just a thought? Please put your comments if you will be interested?

Fabulous experience to come across the code put together by Butch and Richie. It was simple code explaining about template caching, ng controller, promises etc. Great way to learn through this small snippet of codes. The downside was I wasn't lucky to get the free tablet in the raffle.

I love seeing a local group instead of far out in Chicago. I hope to see more down this way instead of the city.

Coming from Kockout, how do you feel about it so far?

      1 · July 17, 2013

    • Norman U.

Angular wants to do everything... is more like a framework... Knockout is more like a plugin...

Would love to come to this, but can't make it to Hoffman Estates at 6:00pm on a weekday. Would love to see more Angular meetups in Chicago. Possible to post a video of this?

I hope some stay out in the Hoffman Estate area as well! It is hard to get to Chicago, so this coming meetup is great!

Does anyone have any preference on what should be presented\talked in this meetup? So far we had these topics covered: 1) Angular Intro from Brad Green
    2) Service, Provider, run, config etc from Kevin Hillinger
    3) Directives from Srinivas Kusunam
    4) Developer workflow from Cary Landholt

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
