AngularJS Meetup

NEW LOCATION: This meetup will be held across the street from the normal location (bigger space!). Please be sure to go to 76 9th Ave (on 9th Ave at 16th St, southeast corner of the intersection)

This week, Domenic Denicola will give a presentation on using promises with AngularJS. Promises are a popular pattern for asynchronous operations in JavaScript, existing in some form in every client-side framework in widespread use today. We'll give a conceptual and practical intro to promises in general, before moving on to talking about how they fit into Angular. If you've ever wondered what exactly $q was about, this is the place to learn!

Please note that this will be a beginner to intermediate tech talk. Little prior knowledge is required.

Then Igor Minar, AngularJS Core Engineer, will answer audience questions. Ask questions here

Last, we'll finish off with some lightning demos which are quick 5-minute demos given by community members. Sign up now!

Agenda:

6:00pm - Door opens, Food, Drinks and Socializing

6:20pm - Talk: AngularJS and its Promise API by Domenic Denicola

7:00pm - Q&A with Igor Minar, AngularJS Core Engineer (Ask questions here)

I currently have an exciting role available for an AngularJS Developer. Looking for someone that wants to build enterprise apps in Angular from scratch. This is a white slate as far as architecture and design. You will own the development process/tools. Excellent salary and my client is in the beginning stages of moving over to open source technologies. This is a great opportunity to get your hands on trending JS frameworks, MongoDB, NoSQL technology -ability to design and develop highly scalable systems ground up. I also have a high level consulting role for a media/news platform in NYC, also open source. Don't miss these opportunities. [masked][masked]

I put up my slides; they include an extra slide inspired by the Q&A on how to use Q ("big Q") with Angular. http://www.slideshare.net/domen...

Domenic, really great talk. I have been learning about promises first via angular and you're talk helped give me a bigger picture of the technology.
Do you still have that notepad pseudocode you wrote in reference to my $(root){,1}scope.$apply question?

      July 17, 2013

    • Domenic D.

Matthew, I tried to incorporate it into the slides as Slide 37.

Someone asked how jquery and angularjs compared/differ/work-together (not sure if it was made clear) during the Q&A with Igor yesterday... Here is a pretty good explanation from Misko Hevery...
"...The whole point of angular is so that you never have to refer to DOM from your behavior code. jQuery is for DOM manipulation which angular shields you from.."

He goes into some simple examples to illustrate the point...

My Angular background is limited, so jumping right into promises was a huge leap. Would've liked more background.

I'm working on my angular app, I noticed something weird in the past few days.
My mac desktop flicks on view for a few seconds whenever I refresh an angular app on chrome, including the angular site.
