Howdy animal lovers!

I was quite surprised to find there not only was no cat lovers/rescuers group in southwest Houston, but that there’s not even an actively meeting pet lover/rescuers group, so knew I was motivated to create an all inclusive pet lovers and rescuers group.

I myself have five wonderful, trained cats, a dog, a hamster, and an inland bearded dragon. I have worked for a horse center as well as two different shelters over the past few years, and have learned a great deal about the pet overpopulation problem and the ins and outs of shelters. I've had now 37 fosters that I've raised and trained to varying degrees, and love to share what I've learned about these amazing creatures. My goal is to teach people about the truth about proper pet care, why shelters are so important and need your help, how to choose a good vet, and how to be responsible for the animals they’ve chosen to bring into their homes.

The purpose of this group is to not only share why we love our pets, whether they be purebred or mixed, but to also educate people about their proper care, nutrition, behavior, and training. So whether you just want to come to socialize and show off your pet, or to find out if you have the time and finances to commit to adopting a dog, how to train your cat, or how to pick a good food, this is the group for you!

Even if you don't own a pet but are thinking of getting one, I highly encourage you to join and attend a meeting to learn how to select the right animal for you and how to start them out right. The goals here are education, having fun, and showing off our pets!

UPDATE: As the goal of this group is to recruit as many pet lovers and rescuers as possible, here's the new deal. Membership dues will be WAIVED if you: 1) Attend at least two meetups within one month (staying for at least an hour) or 2) Recruit at least one new member who attends at least two meetups within the same month (make sure your recruit mentions you by name when they join). There will be a sign-in sheet at each meet to make sure there are no discrepancies. As this group is new on its feet, there are no September dues. This will begin October 1st, and each month in the year will be counted as a month. Of course, you can always donate out of the kindness of your heart! I hope this works better for everyone!
