Thank u for your support & encouragement.I had a beautiful & candid conversation this weekend with my young daughters that just happened but it shed light on how I might approach Zoe's transition. Tessa asked if Zoe would go to heaven soon so I took the opportunity & said that I do not know but she will go when she is ready. I asked the girls,"What makes Zoe beautiful?"& without hesitation Ruby said, "Her heart." Ruby said "When Zoe dies she will just be a body & her spirit will be in heaven." I asked them if they would like to say their last goodbye to Zoe while she is alive or after she has died & they both immediately answered "alive." Ruby said, "It's about love Mom." When the time comes having them "give Zoe something to take to heaven with her" might be a loving ceremony for all of us. Each of us can decide what that is..a letter, a drawing, a special stone/crystal, a flower, a dog treat. I'm learning if you approach a situation with love & truth, your doubt/worry may fade away.

That is so incredibly beautiful. we always doubt ourselves as being good enough parents. I trust you see from this how beautiful your love is for your children and Zoe. We need more of you. Don't be bashful about spreading this to others.

Alixx, It sounds as if the perfect opportunity presented itself for you to hear what your girls think. Tessa and Ruby certainly seem to understand love and what it means, and the plan to give Zoe something to take to Heaven with her is one of the sweetest ideas I have heard. Zoe is very blessed. Thanks for sharing this. Kathy

I feel so blessed to have found this group. Thank you for welcoming me. Although I am surrounded by loving friends and family, until I met all of you, I never felt that there was anyone in my life who truly understood the depth of my grief as I move closer to the day I wake up without my sweet Shelby Sue by my side. You all made me feel very comfortable to share my grief and I know that being a part of this group is going to make an enormous difference in my emotional struggle. After only one meeting, I feel a weight has been lifted.

It was very moving to share in the ceremony for Frank's precious time with King. What a courageous dog who braved a difficult life to finally find his best friend.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting :-)

I think it helped me a lot to know I wasn't alone in my grief in losing Willie, and to be with people who accepted my grief and crying without secretly wishing I'd stop. ;) It's wonderful to be with people who are open about facing end of life instead of trying to stuff it away.

I'm learning there are two types of pain experience. The one I've done for 64 yrs where I hurt and built an ever greater circle of fences so I wouldn't ever have to go back there and pain minus those fear fences experienced with loving kindness in a supportive environment. All of which brings me back to life with greater intensity, joy, and passion. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

It felt good to be with others who understand some of what I am feeling right now as Maggie moves closer to passing. I appreciated the information about Compassionate Care and Dignified Pet Services. King's sacred ritual was lovely. Thank you Ute and everyone else who shared their stories. I think this time I have left with Maggie can be a beautiful experience for both of us, and I'm hoping that the animal hospice group can help me understand how to help make that happen. kathy
