In 1992, ISAR introduced National Homeless Animals’ Day and Candlelight Vigils as an innovative educational vehicle with a purpose of informing society of an American tragedy that overwhelms animal shelters each year – pet overpopulation. Since the conception of National Homeless Animals’ Day, ISAR has reserved the third Saturday of August, commemorating the Day annually, to promote new campaigns, programs and ideas on the solution to the pet overpopulation epidemic: spay/neuter.

Now, because of the ever-growing, successful international participation in National Homeless Animals’ Day by foreign animal protection organizations, ISAR formally acknowledges this global participation by officially entitling our crusade as “International Homeless Animals’ Day.”

Organizations around world come together on the third Saturday of August to raise awareness about the pet overpopulation epidemic, INCLUDING ORLANDO!

Join Orlando's candlelight vigil for homeless animals! Please bring your own candle.

Not really sure how this will help. Can we just go FIND these homeless animals and give them homes? That seems much more productive. I could be wrong. I'm not really the sign holding type, I'm more the GET THINGS DONE type. But to each their own.

HI James, This isn't an ARFF event. This lady has been doing these vigils for a long time in central Florida AND she also does rescue and TNR. What rescue do you work with? Over the years the vigils have received decent media coverage . It is always the hope they will shed light to the problem to an even greater audience, which I think we all want. If we do not see you tonight, we hope to meet you in the future. If you aren't the "sign holding type", we do lots of outreach events that do not involve protests. At our Rally for Pups where we always need someone to distribute brochures to people going into the puppy stores, brochures that not only talk about the problem but have a full list of rescue groups in central FL. We often times have turned people away or people come out empty handed after talking to us. Maybe you could help with that? Hope to see you soon :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
