SAVE OUR WILD HORSES AND BURROS FROM BLM ABUSE/ STOP HORSE SLAUGHTER FOR FOOD

This anti-horse slaughter protest will be on Friday August 2nd at 11:30am.

We will be gathering together on the West Steps of the Colorado State Capitol to ask Congress to step in and intercede with the improper BLM management of the captive wild horses and burros under federal protection. They are currently refusing to give the captive horses any shelter from the heat, which is currently reaching temps of 164 degrees. Mares and foals are dying. We will also be addressing the issue of the impending horse slaughter for food.

Please come out and show your support for the American Horse who built this country and who are the very symbols of the West.

Bring posters and signs to wave, but do not use sticks to hold the posters. Relevant props are welcome too.

Ask your friends and family to attend with you.  the more support the better.

Let's show Congress and the BLM that we care about our American Heritage and the iconic symbol of the West, the Horse.

This will be a peaceful rally and we will be handing out educational materials to the public.

Wear cool clothing (it will be hot that day), bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if you need one.

See you there. For the Horses!

Good to call the Obama's Administration on these issues. They have a separate line just to take the calls on our Horse issues. I"ll have to post the number when I can find it.

This article was in Saturday's Denver Post. Please read comments to see what we are up against. Denver Post did not bother to attend protest but was inspired by press release to at least draw attention to issue. http://www.denverpost.com/ci_23778879/u-s-must-control-growth-wild-horse-population

GREAT NEWS FROM HORSES SLAUGHTERHOUSE HEARING IN ALUBQUERQUE: – The Roswell horse slaughter facility is on hold.

U.S. District Court Judge M. Christina Armijo granted a temporary restraining order against the Valley Meat Co., which received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to become the first processing facility for horse meat in the U.S. in seven years.

“The burden is high, but plaintiffs have demonstrated to this court that potential harm to the environment outweigh defendant’s concerns,” Armijo said from the bench, effectively shutting the Roswell facility and another proposed horse slaughterhouse in Sigourney, Iowa, from opening as early as this Monday.

A bond hearing will be set Monday, and the two sides will meet again within 30 days before Armijo to hear arguments about a permanent injunction,

“There’s more work ahead but it’s a good day for horses,” said Laura Bonar of Animal Protection New Mexico.

The demo went really smoothly. We were spread out along Lincoln (both sides of street) between 14th and Colfax. It was a really good place to show our signs and get attention, and I think we should do more stuff there, great exposure. There was a reporter from KGNU who in NOW VERY INFORMED of the issue of horse slaughter and BLM abuse of Wild horses and burros. So many positive reactions from the public. It was very hot out and everyone stayed the whole time. Thank you animal warriors! Thanks for the megaphone Olivier, too bad I didn't know how to use it. (Chuckle)

Tomorrow, Friday is the demonstration. We look forward to having you all there at the Capitol to speak up for the Horses. Bring your poster/sign, sunscreen, water and a hat and/or umbrella. See you at the west steps at 11:30am. Be there! For the Horses! If you wish to speak/address the rally attendees, please let me know. *send me an email.

note: the driveway between the steps and the lawn must remain open to automobile traffic, please remember that when you arrive. Also, parking is limited (it's downtown after all,) so get there a little early to find parking and bring change for the meters. 4 quarters gets you an hour parking. No parking on Lincoln or Colfax near the capitol. Look for some parking on Sherman (both sides of capitol). and on Colfax east of capitol past Grant. You might want to carpool
