PROTEST FOIE GRAS AT LUMA RESTAURANT
MEETUP LOCATION: 290 S PARK AVE - WINTER PARK in front of Luma across from the opening to the Park.
MEETUP TIME: 7PM
Foie gras is a delicacy, literally meaning 'fatty liver.' This dish is the diseased liver of a duck or a goose that has had a three foot metal pipe jammed into their esophagus and are forcefed through a machine that works like a vaccum cleaner in reverse. The machine engorges their livers mechanically until they explode to ten times their natural size. This process has disgusted millions and as a result it has been banned in 16 countries as well as in Chicago and California. Luma Restaurant in Winter Park proudly serves foie gras and are one of only about a dozen in central florida (out of thousands of restaurants) who are cruel enough to profit from such egregious cruelty. We have been protesting weekly outside of Luma Restaurant in an attempt to get them to drop the dish and commit to never serve it again. As a part of the foie gras campaign in Philadelphia, keeping protest pressure on restaurants like Luma, we were able to get foie gras out of three quarters of the restaurants that served the dish in our city. The campaign against Luma is now raging and we have many supporters in favor of ridding our community of such horrific abuse for profit. Come stand against animal cruelty with other central florida activists as we visit Luma, once again this saturday night.
We had 20 people at the last demo. Let's make our voices heard with even more this time!
