Blackfish at Tampa Theatre--Opening Night

Blackfish is the documentary that has SeaWorld on the run. It tells the story of Tilikum, a captive orca who has been involved in the deaths of three people. The film has many people questioning the practice of keeping orcas, dolphins, and other such animals in captivity and forcing them to perform tricks for onlookers. It also exposes the danger faced by trainers and others who work with the animals.

Join us as we attend on opening night and bear witness for these creatures who deserve so much better than to be trapped in marine parks in what to them amounts to a concrete bathtub.

Its really brain washing to the next level , conducted by Seaworld , they want you to think they are doing the Orca whales a big favor by kidnapping them from their family / pod and then forcing them to live in a tank about the size of a large bathtub for 99.9 % of their life ,thats when they're not out doing tricks to amuse people who have bought into Seaworld's animal slavery lie.

I am sorry I had to miss it. I don't understand how they can all of a sudden own the whales from the ocean and then use them to make money in the name of protecting them, after they catch them just to make money. Horrible. They have no right to think of them as property of theirs at all, as they belong to everyone and should be free.

I had an idea of what I might see. I learned a lot about orcas. It is so awful of what SeaWorld is doing to these wonder animals. SeaWorld is still getting away with these terrible things, and this is so unacceptable.

Before the movie, if I can get there early enough, I'll try to hang out in the lobby or outside with an Animal Advocacy of Tampa Bay sign. There are probably too many of us for us all to sit together, but it'd be nice to meet some of you new people and put faces to names.

The movie was really eye opening and educational regarding how the Orcas live in captivity and how many injuries they get from fellow orcas, and how many trainers suffer injuries and how Seaworld ,covers it up ,all for the almighty dollar.

So do I have to buy tickets in advance?

    August 16, 2013

    • Lisa R.

I don't see an option to buy them online, so I'd say you can only get them at the box office.

I believe it's going to be at the Tampa Theater for 1-2 wks so you'll have time to see it.

Saw this last night in Sarasota. Just when you think nothing more can shock you. I highly encourage everyone to see this, if not now, soon. Despicable is too nice a word. And yet we know circus animals suffer the same abuses. If you do go to the Tampa show, be sure to find the management, or drop them a line to let them know how much your appreciate their courage. Saw a Bay News 9 story saying the theatre owner was taking heat from Sea World not to show it.

Thought I could make it, but school orientation is that same night :( Hope it stays for a couple weeks, so I can get out to see it. My parents saw it in NYC and said it was wonderful!

Saw the tv promo of the show, which was prompted by the death of the entertainer. But, of course we all know that these animals do not belong in captivity, as things are bound to happen.

I'm glad to see that this movie is playing over here, we were ready to go over to Orlando last week but didn't get a chance to.

If you can't make it out on opening night, Tampa Theatre has scheduled the film for a two-week run. Wouldn't it be cool if we could make it so popular that it would get held over? Please bring friends or family members with you--especially those who don't get why places like SeaWorld are hell for these animals.
