There's been some outdated information circulating about the recent roof collapse at the Humane Society of Pinellas. The following post was made to its website and Facebook page. Read on to see how you can help, but PLEASE DO NOT HIT "REPLY" TO GET MORE INFORMATION! Contact the Humane Society directly at (727)[masked] or by e-mail at [address removed] (Info at HumaneSocietyofPinellas dot org).
"The Humane Society of
Pinellas would like to thank everyone for their immediate and heartfelt
support. As you may have heard, one of the metal roofs in our dog
adoption kennels sustained damage Thursday morning as Tropical Storm
Andrea moved through our area. Thankfully, all of our dogs and staff are
safe and sound. We evacuated 20 dogs to crates in meeting rooms. Safety
for our pets and people is our highest priority, so an inspector
examined all the roofs for integrity. The section of kennels that
sustained the most damage will remain closed, but the shelter is now
open for both cat and dog adoptions.
"The timing for this type of disaster is never right, but yesterday’s
events are especially difficult because we just kicked off our Pick Me!
Project, trying to adopt 999 pets in 90 days to win grant money through
the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The challenge is now even more
challenging! If you have been thinking about adopting, now is the time.
This group is about getting active for animals. Our calendar is generally used to post when we are going out to leaflet, do an information table, or otherwise educate the public about animal cruelty issues and animal advocacy. We also post fun events there and events from other local animal groups.
You should join if you want to help animals and educate others so that they can make a difference too!
