Thank you, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse

A Jeeves and Wooster novel

Thank You, Jeeves is the first novel to feature the incomparable valet Jeeves and his hapless charge Bertie Wooster - and you've hardly started to turn the pages when he resigns over Bertie's dedicated but somewhat untuneful playing of the banjo. In high dudgeon, Bertie disappears to the country as a guest of his chum Chuffy - only to find his peace shattered by the arrival of his ex-fiancée Pauline Stoker, her formidable father and the eminent loony-doctor Sir Roderick Glossop. When Chuffy falls in love with Pauline and Bertie seems to be caught in flagrante, a situation boils up which only Jeeves (whether employed or not) can simmer down…

Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves are perhaps the most beloved characters in all of English literature--certainly the most humorous. P. G. Wodehouse's classic novels reflect the glories and absurdities of a vanished era.

Please tell me the juiciest, or most memorable comment about "Thank You, Jeeves." I was so sorry to not be able to make my way to Ann Arbor today, and wished there was a video feed.

I didn't find the book that funny while I was reading it, but when people read it out loud, it made me laugh. Also, it was a play, which explains a lot as I was picturing people popping in and out of scenes as I read.

@Lenore, Glad you asked about the juiciest comment..@Megan, after awhile, I would read one chapter, more like story, at a time, found that easier...@Janet, after reading one story, put it down, read another one, I started skimming it for stage directions, character development, costuming and eventually dialogue...I most enjoyed the "putting on a play" mode! Oh, I'd love to see the Hugh Laurie show!

I will be teaching adults Chinese at Ann Hua every Sunday 3-5. No more book club for me :( I will however keep reading and already set up two inside men to take notes for me. I will sure miss the book discussions. This is a great book club!

boy, I just finished the book, but I'm in Royal Oak and would have to rush up to Ann Arbor, then retrace my trek tomorrow. So, unless I arrive late, I'll miss this one. Looking forward to Vanity Fair.

I'm looking forward to "Jeeves", which I read decades ago in my late teens. I imagine reading it will be like the fun of a Turner classic movie. A perfect "summer read".
