This is our official July discussion, where we will be discussing the book that we democratically selected as a group. This time we are reading "The Thousand and One Nights", also known as "The Arabian Nights". There are many versions of this collection out there. I personally recommend the Borders edition, translated by Sir Richard Burton (pictured)--though any copy will do. It may be interesting to see how our understanding varies based on which selection each of us has picked up! Description from Amazon.com:
Full of mischief, valor, ribaldry, and romance, The Arabian Nights has enthralled readers for centuries. These are the tales that saved the life of Shahrazad, whose husband, the king, executed each of his wives after a single night of marriage. Beginning an enchanting story each evening, Shahrazad always withheld the ending: A thousand and one nights later, her life was spared forever.
